It seems like everyone is always looking for the latest and greatest cocktail idea. There is always some new combination of alcohols coming out. However, these new and unique concoctions do have a drawback. They do not always appeal to the masses, and this can be difficult if you are hoping to have them as part of your party spread. However, one thing that people always enjoy is edible cocktails.
For many people, the thought of edible cocktails means jello shots in a cheap paper cup, but that is not the case today. The truth is that the average person has started to get more selective with what they eat and drink. Perhaps it is the popularity of shows like top chef and iron chef, but whatever the reason, it is a full-blown trend.
A pervasive trend has been the idea of the amuse bouche. Essentially, that means a small bite that is designed to tease and intrigue the taste buds. Chefs have been crafting those in the form of food for years, but recently, that trend has moved into the world of edible cocktails.
These edible cocktails are created to perfectly combine flavors together so they exist in a perfect symbiosis. This means that each flavor profile is carefully constructed to bring the best out of each ingredient so that they build upon each other and result in a perfect sensation for the mouth.
Additionally, edible cocktails are not just shoved into a paper cup. Instead, many of these are served in different containers, or they may even be able to stand on their own in the form of cubes or rounds. This can be accomplished with the use of different cooking materials like gelatin.
Many adults love the idea of these because they feel a bit more substantial than simply having a drink in your hand that you mindlessly sip. Instead, with an edible cocktail you take the time to appreciate what you are putting into your mouth. As someone eats an edible cocktail, they take note of the beauty of the presentation, the construction of the flavors, and the overall taste it exhibits.
Additionally, in some ways it is easier to monitor your alcohol consumption because taking a small portion from a tray is easier than keeping track of a glass that you mindlessly refill.
There are also few rules associated with edible cocktails. You can truly let your creativity soar. You are able to use ingredients that you might not otherwise be able to use. For example, often, edible dried flowers are added for visual impact and to add to the general flavor of the cocktail. You may also want to have fun with the shape and serving methods of edible cocktails. For holiday parties you may want to look at holiday shapes where as for a simple cocktail party you may want to look at more 3D options like a cube or a pyramid. The truth is that if you have fun making the edible cocktails, your guests will have fun eating them.
