For many women, the diagnosis of PCOS may well have been discovered when you went to see your GP because the it was taking longer to conceive than you originally thought. For these women suffering with PCOS, fertility can be boosted a natural way.

Many women who go to there GP or fertility clinics because of ovulation issues usually have PCOS. It is not common knowledge but many of the issues with PCOS and infertility can be addressed by the woman without any expert advice.

We will look at how you can maximise your chances of falling pregnant with PCOS. Also, because pre-conception period is just as important as the actual pregnancy as far as the health of the baby is concerned, women should develop the mindset as what is know as the "12 Month Pregnancy". This is where the woman looks after her body pre conception the same way she would while pregnant.

Infertility is not inevitable in PCOS but even if you are trouble trying to conceive (TTC), you can increase your chances of getting pregnant by following some basic lifestyle rules of treating PCOS fertility naturally. Changing your lifestyle just a little may be all it takes to make the difference between whether being able to fall pregnant or not.

Getting fit and healthy will not happen overnight. You have to focus on a healthy lifestyle for three to six months before you begin trying for a baby. Although this doesn't guarantee a problem-free pregnancy or birth,it could enhance your fertility and the likelihood of having a healthy baby, while reducing the potential risk of a premature birth.

Having the ability to conceive is very much affected by your present percentage of body fat; being both underweight and overweight is effective in reducing fertility. However, the risk of infertility rises if a tendency to store weight around the middle exists.

This 'apple' shape kind of obesity is quite common in PCOS since it is a result of insulin resistance. Consequently, this insulin resistance has an impact on the reproductive hormone levels in your body. If these are disrupted, the viability of the egg you release (which would have to become fertilised by sperm if pregnancy were to occur) is reduced.

Your fertility rate is therefore likely to improve if you can lose some weight around your midriff.

Diet will help you shed weight, but to focus on weight loss specifically around your middle you should also get physically active. Exercise will help you lose weight around the middle.

Being overweight or obese prior to and while pregnant is linked to several pregnancy problems, and the risks increase with the increasing volume of excess weight you carry.

Even if you're not diabetic now, the stress of pregnancy is able to bring it on if you're also carrying excess weight.

• You're prone to develop high blood pressure.

• You're at greater risk for developing pre-eclampsia (when blood pressure rises so high it could endanger the life of you and your baby).

• You're more likely to experience abnormal labour which can require an emergency caesarean section.

• Your baby is more likely to be born prematurely and be in danger of health problems associated with being born prematurely.

• You're more likely to give birth to a baby with congenital problems.

Dieting to lose weight is not advisable during pregnancy; therefore, if you are overweight or obese, losing the weight before you try to conceive is important.

So in summary, the main things you can do to maximise your chances of falling pregnant with PCOS: fertility boosting like losing weight if you are overweight, eating right, and exercising.
