If you love to save money and also have really great tasting meals, I would highly suggest purchasing a canning pot. They are very reasonably priced. You can purchase one from around $10 dollars to about $50 dollars, but give or take that price when considering there is a large variety of pots and how each of them come with different perks that may adjust the price on it just a bit.
Some canning pots can hold up to 7 jars, sometimes even more depending on how much money you're willing to spend on one. Some also come with 12 inch canning racks and if you are a canner you can appreciate the space allowed with 12 inches.
There are different types of canners out there. The water bath canning pot is a great way to boil the water for health reasons while canning. You definitely want to take precautions while preparing food and the water bath canning pot helps kill the bacteria that may form and breed in different situations. A steam canner, on the other hand, is better especially if you are into going green or even into saving a little bit of green, money that is. The steam canner uses only 3 pints of water and it doesn't take as much time to heat up. In fact it only takes about half the time as any other canner to heat up.
The main types of food that are canned are usually those that have low acid in them. Some of those foods are fruits, vegetables, jellies and jams, and tomatoes. Canning foods are the best way to get your money's worth. By canning any kind of food you are saving money, because stores who distribute the same items you would be canning high tale the price on every item by at least ten times its original worth. Also, the foods themselves, taste a lot better. I don't know about you, but I would much rather prefer a home cooked meal over some product purchased at a local grocery store. Plus not only do the canned foods you can do by yourself at home better tasting, but they are also a lot healthier for you. The stores actually receive their products from manufactures who throw in a lot of additives and preservatives which make a healthy product turn ugly really fast. Maybe that is why the United States of America is one of the most obese countries in the world. We tend to escape, or try to escape, actual hard work that our own grandparents endured. We feel we have no time in a day to prepare a nice meal so we go out to eat or to the grocery store and buy products that are super unhealthy for us. If you look at the facts canning is one of the best options. Canning saves individuals a lot of money, the food tastes better, and it is definitely creating a smaller waist size.
