The Polar FT 40 monitor also allows you to take a five minute test where you can lay on the ground. While laying down, it will monitor your HR. It allows you to always tailor-make your info which makes the stats accurate for your particular weight, gender, height, date of birth and activity level. When you have on the chest strap, the monitor tells you your current HR, and monitors your max HR zone for you while you are exercising. The maximum zone can be manually set up by you at or the monitor will choose the max zone for you. It will put in your VO2 index which is how well you are expeditiously utilizing oxygen, and keep a data record of exactly how minutes of activity you have done, what your heart rate level was during the activity and most importantly how many calories you burned.
It has bonus features of a custom warning signal for day-to-day weekdays with a snooze feature. It also offers military time including seconds which is great if you are in the military or just like viewing the 24 hour clock instead. This Polar FT40 is waterproof which is great for a water workout. One nice feature is a five second teal back light push button that is great for reading data when it is dark or at dusk if you are working out at that time of day. If you are actually into watching the trend of your stats, the watch data can be downloaded to the Polar website if you have wifi and offer you a report of your progress.
