This brief article will aim to give you an initial idea of what business coaching is; Business Coaching is a form of coaching aimed at teaching individuals and / or teams in all forms of businesses to become better, more professional, confident, ethical and profitable business people.

Whether it be in a small online business with 1 – 10 employees and a turnover of less than £70K a year or a large business with a turnover of £500 million a year the principles of business coaching can still apply and bring great benefits to both.

Coaching in businesses can be seen as referring to a method of human resource or personal development and arguably as the world of business, probably except from professional sport which can also be very profitable is one of the most distinct areas of professional coaching outside the world of sport.

Business Coaching is thought to date back from the 1930’s to the 1950’s; this was a more informal form of business coaching when managers and supervisors would act as coaches to the staff for training purposes.

A good business coach should work on a number of levels; providing support and feedback on progress while offering advice and guidance on how to best meet the needs of the business, improve the company’s performance and increase profitability.

Business coaching is a great way to reach certain standards in your professional life, which will hopefully improve individual and team performance in strategic planning, leadership, accountability, professionalism, sales, teamwork, goal setting and communication to name but a few.

Business Coaching can be provided in many ways, either formally or informally; formally would be in the form of organised coaching sessions whilst informally would be where it is built into the role of executives, managers and supervisors day to day activities when dealing with colleagues.

It can also be provided in house, by employing full time professional business coaches to work with members of staff on an ongoing basis or by utilising the services of specialist coaching companies which can be used for a fixed term or on a one off basis when the need arises.

This is quite a large topic and this article has only just began to outline business coaching and it’s potential benefits, for further reading would suggest searching online, using web or book search or consulting your local library or business coaching service provider.
