Hiring a car or camper is most recommended for this trip. You'll want to take it all in as you drive along this magnificent coastal road stretching from Torquay to Warnambool in Victoria. So wind down those windows and let the invigorating fresh smells of saltwater, bush, beach and gums refresh and relax you.. The Great Ocean road is also known to some as the Great bitumen sea-snake, first passing through iconic surf beaches and then rolling into Apollo Bay and the Otway Ranges.

If you're a bit of a photo enthusiast, keep that camera loaded as you are bound to see an array of spectacular ocean vistas, flora and fauna. Keep your eyes peeled for Koalas too, who perched up high in the trees, seem to enjoy the scenery themselves.

When you're not behind the wheel, taking a surf lesson is a popular activity for tourists. Teachers are laid back and friendly. They'll let you in on the basics and a few tricks. The rest is up to you.. Lessons are normally around 50 bucks for two hours and the guys at Offshore surf tours also offer complete 1-5 day learn to surf tours.. You can watch a video at the link on the bottom of this article.

SO YOU WANT ADVENTURE HUH?

Some choose to hike the Great Ocean Road. Perhaps this is the only way to really get a feel for this incredible region with its remote beaches, limestone cliffs, massive 60 metre ash trees, shipwrecks and more..

ACCOMMODATION ALONG THE WAY

Every type of accommodation is on offer at some point along the Great Ocean Road. Lovely Bed and Breakfasts, Holiday homes and camping or tourist parks offer the most unique experiences in this part of the world, Whether for adventure, romance or family.

TORQUAY

In Victoria's surf capital even the public furniture is surfboard shaped. Many surf travellers come here to buy their equipment before heading off for surf glory further along the road. There's not much to do here to be honest. The town has become a shopping mall for travelling wave riders.. Good place for a pie stop or a new wet suit if you're here in the Winter months, June, July, August..

ANGLESEA

For years this place has been a family favourite and is loved for it's fantastic beaches and camping. Situated alongside green Anglesea River, accommodation here is complemented by the tranquil bush settings. There is also a golf course here where kangaroos are known to hop along the greens.
