By learning the basic techniques involved with the kitchen installation, you will become confident that you can do it without the help from a professional.

The best way to get started is to get familiar with your new kitchen design, one which you hopefully had designed by a professional kitchen designer. By drawing out the new kitchen cabinets on the walls of your kitchen, you will be able to get a clear picture as to what the room will look like. This is especially true for the wall cabinets, and will give you a clear and concise representation as to what the kitchen should look like. You should have been given a three dimensional drawing and an overhead layout from your designer so that you can do this step.

Take the time to study the layout that you have drawn on the kitchen walls. Confirm that you have received all of the cabinets and that all of them are going to fit. You will want to make sure that there are no electrical boxes or other wiring that has to be moved. If there are some wires or boxes in the way, they will need to be moved ahead of time. Just call in your electrician and he should be able to relocate them without any problems. Having everything in order and where it is supposed to be ahead of time will save you a lot of headaches.

Now, the next step is to find the high point of the floor which will give you the starting point for the install. Speaking of floors, it is the best idea to have the new flooring installed before you start with the cabinet installation. Having this done beforehand just makes the entire process much easier. Just be sure to protect the floor during the installation process. Floating floors and perimeter glued vinyl will have to be installed beforehand. you will find out from your flooring provider if this needs to be done ahead of time or after the cabinets are installed.

Next step is to measure up from the floor thirty inches and place a mark on the wall. Anywhere the cabinets are going to be installed, draw a level line on the walls at this height. Record the dimensions as you measure up from the floor to the line every two feet. When you find the smallest dimension, you will have your high point of the floor. Now you will want to measure up from the high point of the floor thirty four and a half inches. This will represent the top of the base cabinets and will serve as your reference point for the wall cabinets as well.
