The first thing that you should have in order to succeed in any endeavor or sport is your passion and determination. That is unquestionable. Given that you have those driving forces from within you, the next thing that will follow is how to manifest such traits in order to make the most of it and one way in doing so is by learning about everything that you should know. Of course, one of the important things in playing golf is for you to be knowledgeable and familiar with your golf set.
Your golf set is essentially your partner in playing golf. It basically comprises of 14 to 16 golf clubs, however, in a standard game the rules allow 14 clubs only to be brought and used on the golf course. Being a beginner, you don't need to have all the 14 clubs immediately since your primary concern as of the moment is to get to know half of the clubs first before you will proceed in learning more about the other half.
Before you step forward towards the retail shops, it is important that you should once again know what are the specific things that you should see in your golf set. Basically it must have these clubs: irons, woods, wedges, putters and hybrids. You must also be aware that there are different types of irons, as well as of woods and wedges.
Most golf club sets will contain these clubs (14 to 16):
•Irons 2-7 (6 clubs)
•Woods 3, 5, and 7 (3 clubs)
•A driver (1 club)
•A pitching wedge and sand wedge (2 clubs)
•A hybrid
•A putter
To start, irons are usually used for short shots. They are divided into two types: the cavity back blade and the forged blade clubs. The cavity back blade iron is the best choice for beginners. In addition, using a graphite shaft for your iron will also help since it helps in giving greater accuracy. As for the professional golfers, stiffer shafts for their irons are more ideal and recommended.
If you are aiming for longer shots, the woods and/or drivers are the best choices since these clubs were made for that purpose. Large head clubs will be better for a beginner since this will help in increasing the chance of accuracy in your swing.
For approach shots as well as shots on the greens it is better to use the putters. These clubs are of great use in the field since most of the time you will be using them. There are four types of putters, though most golf sets only have one inside. As such, if you want to know which putter will be best for you then you can search for the other types and try to use them as well so that you can feel the difference among them. Most professionals also have different types of putters in their golf set which they use based upon their recent playing as well as other conditions.
Moving on, wedges are good for shots that are out of the range of the putters and they are also just irons with a loft of more than 50 degrees. They can be classified as pitching, sand and lob wedges. For most professional golfers, pitching wedges and sand wedges are of more use on the golf course.
Hybrids are said to have the combined qualities of two best clubs, the iron and the wood. Thus, hybrids are highly specialized for great performance in distance control and accuracy. A hybrid set where the long irons (3- and 4-) are replaced with utility club design is the perfect choice for beginners.
Finally, before you go towards the golf course, you still need one thing: your golf bag, unless you can carry the 14 clubs all with your hands. It is a good thing that most golf sets already have golf bags with them, but you still have the liberty to buy your own golf bag or even your own golf cart later on.
