Wall lighting in the home can be a truly great way of lighting it. All types of houses, large, small, old or new can benefit from a few wall lights scattered around. Both the inside of the house and the outside too are able to have wall lights attached to the house, and many people choose to do so. There are many different types and styles of wall light to choose from including decorative pieces, modern stainless steel designs and everything in between. This article provides information about wall lights and lighting and how it can really dress up your home.
One of the many nice things about wall lights is that they do not take centre stage. Unlike chandeliers or hanging pendants they do not immediately draw in the eye. In small rooms in particular, a hanging light or even a standing lamp can simply overshadow everything else and make the place look badly designed. Wall lights are there, in the background providing style and light but not overcrowding or vying for attention the way that hanging lights and chandeliers in particular can do. They can be placed on any wall and at whatever height you choose. If you need lights in a room for reading or carrying out a task then you will want to place the wall lights strategically - this is called task lighting. If the lights are just to provide overall light in the room then they can more or less be placed anywhere. You can just use your eye to see what positions they look best in.
There is no denying that fitting wall lights can be more time consuming and even costly then installing other types of lighting. Lamps can simply be plugged in and switched on. Wall lights on the other hand need screwing into the wall correctly and wired in. If you have wires for the purpose of attaching a wall light already protruding from the wall then fixing the light in place is not too difficult. If these wires are not present however, because you had never intended to have a light there then a little more work is involved. It will be necessary to chase the wires into the wall if you don't want them on display. This can need specialist equipment and can involve hiring someone to do it if you are not a DIY kind of person.
A benefit of wall lights is that they don't take up valuable space in a room. Lamps need floor space or table tops to sit on and if a room is small and space is at a premium then a wall light or two may be much more appropriate. Because you can buy any style or design, wall lights can easily be fitted into any interior design. From modern to vintage, there are different shapes, colours, styles and even materials available for your wall lights. They also come as uplighters or downlighters so are amongst the most versatile style of lighting there is. People often choose to have decorative wall lights that create an interesting pattern of light on the surrounding wall. This is another benefit or a wall light that you simply can't get with other types of light.
Wall lights that have swinging arms are a great way of providing task lighting in a room. This type of light can make the perfect reading light in particular. With an adjustable arm that can be moved to where you want to direct the light, you can have the light exactly how you want it. Wall lights also make the ideal wall lights for the home because the fitting is out of the way and therefore safe to use in a room filled with water and steam. There are no wires loose that can cause danger and the lights can be placed anywhere. Wall lighting is perfect for any room in the house including kitchens, sitting rooms and bathrooms.
