If you are barely starting to train or simply thinking of training in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu you must be sure to have the right Jiu Jitsu Gear. Having the right Jiu Jitsu Gear and making sure your Jiu Jitsu Gear is top notch could be crucial to your Bjj career. If you don’t have money problems then you may be able to purchase lots of Bjj gear but for those short on cash should be sure to have the main gear. Today we will discuss the 4 main pieces of Jiu Jitsu Gear you must have when training in Bjj.
Jiu Jitsu Gi – Your Jiu Jitsu Gi is the single most important piece of Jiu Jitsu Gear you would need. The Jiu Jitsu Gi is also known as the Jiu Jitsu Kimono. Your Bjj Kimonos typically come with a Gi top and Gi pants. This will be the uniform you will be wearing to train in the sport of Bjj. Training in the Bjj Gi also teaches you much technique which will greatly improve your game.
Jiu Jitsu Belt – Depending on your rank, you will choose a Jiu Jitsu belt to wear either white, blue purple, brown or black. Jiu Jitsu belts are also very important because they are the key thing to look at to see your improvement in Jiu Jitsu. Your instructor will be the primary judge to give you a higher belt or not. Typically, from the day you start until you get your black belt it will take anywhere from 10 – 12 years on average. In Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, obtaining new higher belts is much harder than any other martial art out there as it is the hardest to develop the muscle memory the Bjj black belts have.
Rash Guard – Rash Guards are very important to wear under your Bjj Kimonos if you want to prevent catching anything from any of your opponents. They could also be good to reduce your sweat as they evaporate some of your sweat. However in most tournaments or any IBJJF tournament rash guards are not permissible during competition.
Ear Guard – Although majority of Bjj fighters may not wear ear guards to train I highly do recommend it if you don’t want your ear looking ugly for the rest of your life. At least wear it 75% of the time when you train. When you compete just leave them off.
