Chances are at some point in your life you have been asked whether or not you would like to go to heaven. The subject of heaven is talked about from time to time by the religious and non-religious alike. It is often used by so-called Christians when engaging in evangelistic conversations with people. However, the question "Do you want to go to heaven" is not the proper question to be asking from a Biblical standpoint. Let's face it. No person on the face of the earth when asked this question responds honestly with "No, I think I'd rather go to hell."

The fact of the matter is that everyone wants to go to heaven. Everybody wants to live in a paradise where there is no more sickness or disease. Everyone wants to go to a place where they get everything they want. That is why the proper question is not: "Do you want to go to heaven?" But rather: "Do you want God?" What often fail to realize is that heaven is not all about the people and giving them everything they want. Heaven is all about God. Satan would like very much to return to heaven, as long as he didn't have to bow his knee to God. If you don't want God right now, you surely won't want Him in heaven.

Heaven is described in the Bible as a place where God Himself dwells among His people, and great worship takes place. It is described as a place where there is no more sickness, and death is done away with. But as we can see, the simple question of whether or not someone wants to go to Heaven leaves out a big part of the picture. When a rebellious sinner who is an enemy of God is asked this question, his natural response is going to be "Yes," because he wants all the benefits of heaven without having to submit to his God. While the Bible only tells us bits and pieces about what heaven will be like, one thing is abundantly clear. It is about God, and not about man. It is only when the man centered religious of the world take the idea of heaven and mold it into something that appeals to them that we lose sight of what heaven is truly about. God centered religious keeps God at the center of all things, including heaven.

This is why we must ask whether or not people want God, because if they don't want God while they are here on earth, they certainly will not want to go to a place where God is when they die. They should much rather go to Hell where they can continue in their rebellion against God. Unfortunately heaven is often portrayed as a place where you to go and "do your own thing" for the rest of eternity. But this is not the Heaven of the Bible. The heaven of the Bible is all about giving God the worship that he wants and desires, not about giving people everything they want and desire.
