TOOLS FOR THE DYSLEXIC:LEARNING TO NAVIGATE THROUGH A NON-DYSLEXIC WORLD WHEN YOU VIEW THE WORLD COMPLETELY DIFFERENTLY
Dyslexia affects many Americans in all age groups with all socioeconomic backgrounds. I switched to political science - a discipline focused on looking at multiple pieces to any problem. A. There were two aspects that completely helped me through my academic experience. As though adulthood is not difficult enough, dyslexia adds a dimension of complexity to the lives of those who suffer with it. I am hoping you will find my story to be helpful for you. Many times, I would daydream in class because the material would be hard for me to follow. Dyslexia tends to touch all aspects of the life of the person who is suffering from it.
PUBLIC SPEAKING
However, what these individuals do not realize is the simple act of switching pronouns when speaking with another individual can make you seem uneducated, unreliable and possibly confused. Think about everything that you say and compile the sentence in your mind before speaking it. If you are obviously thinking about what you say, the individual you are speaking with will be impressed and will find that you are a "careful" individual, more professional and smart. Perhaps you want to speak quickly because it seems impressive when others do it? Many individuals believe if they speak something quickly, he or she will impress their boss or other individuals he or she is speaking with.
VERB AGREEMENTS
While you must be cognoscente of pronoun usage, you must also be cognoscente of proper verb agreements. There are a couple of ways to combat the problem of inaccurate verb agreements. " Most individuals will be impressed with the idea that you understand correct verb usage and have the confidence in yourself to correct yourself.
WRITING
You will find that putting everything in writing is one of the easiest ways to combat dyslexia. Make sure you check everything you write carefully. Write it first, then go back and look at it again.
TAKING STANDARDIZED TESTS
You should be asking yourself, "Where do I go wrong?" This question will help you focus on how to solve the problem you are experiencing when taking this type of exam. However, approaching the test in a logical format trying to understand where you go wrong and how the questions are going to be asked will help you take the exam and pass it. For example, the key phrases in this sentence will be underlined for you so you understand what the information is in the question sentence. You should find the tools that help you the most because it will only make your life easier. What I wasn't realizing at the time was that I was jumbling the instructions in my mind. Through understanding what dyslexia is, to understanding how it affects you personally, you will find the tools, resources and strength to not only combat dyslexia in your adulthood, but also learn how to live with it through the rest of your life. If you find these tools are helping but you need to find other ways to combat dyslexia in adulthood, contact a professional tutor or educator who specializes in special education. My struggles with dyslexia have seemed overwhelming, especially during the times in my life where I didn't know what I was experiencing was called. Instructions are not difficult to follow provided that you take the appropriate steps you need to take to follow them.
