In the scriptural book of Jeremiah, God tries to motivate the prophet by way of stating: "Before I actually created you in your mother's womb I recognized you, before you were delivered I consecrated you; I've designated you a prophet to the nations.(Jeremiah 1:5) It is fair to say that almost all Judeo-Christian devotees believe that God could both predict and manage the future, that individuals are present in the mind of God, and that the mind of God is never changed. Thus, human individuals really exist as long as the Lord exists, and that is always.
For this reason it is very important to be aware of all of the implications of disturbing the lives of other people. When we obtain the stewardship of a human being, our duty is not to ascertain the direction of that person's life but to nurture it such that the person will determine God's direction. The storyline of Jeremiah demonstrates that the dangers of disturbing God's consecrated purposes for someone else go beyond only endangering the physical existence or salvation of that particular person.
People, even Christians, experience problems appreciating the everlasting nature of a specific human life because we all live in a world, as well as in bodies, that hold our own mortal lives to be of utmost importance. Bible believing Christians like to say that "life begins at the instant of conception," as a discussion against abortion. In the more substantial sense this in fact undermines the value of human existence, because conception is merely the start of "mortal life." Our personal spiritual lives are endless.
As well, we throw away valuable resources fighting in opposition to the appearance of growing old in agreement with people that profit from fear plus shame manufactured by advertising propaganda and a modern society that blindly agrees with it all. We sometimes try to unnaturally prevent our loved ones from moving into the presence of The almighty. These behaviors are all indications of our belief that mortal life is preimmenent. The reality is that any individual human life is really as eternal as the lifetime of God, because it is a piece of God's mind. This particular present mortal life is simply a tiny parenthesis in the eternal story of the universe. Nevertheless, it is in this parenthesis that all individual choices are made and all of our eternal destinies are fixed.
Christian sin entails avoidable choices made for entirely irrational reasons. The first flawed choice is to believe the lies which usually tell us our personal mortal bodies are the most important commodities and ought to be protected and indulged at all costs. This lie began in the Garden of Eden and so it is right now. When we place this lie into the framework of all time, it seems absurd. When we allow it to come up with demands just in the context of now, it can become too much to handle.
Jeremiah did not experience an easy personal life in this world. The prophet was consecrated by the Lord to deliver some truly negative stuff. He ended up being tortured, imprisoned and saw his beloved holy place destroyed. He was moreover commissioned by God to generate a manuscript generally known as Lamentations! Nevertheless, the purpose he achieved was one among the most crucial in Biblical history. If someone had murdered him, or warned him as a child to avoid danger or criticism at any expense, the Judeo-Christian story might be significantly re-structured.
