How to Treat Sunburn
The Unknown Dangers of Sunburn and How to Treat It
Spending an afternoon at the beach is no doubt one of the relaxing activities of choice by millions of people everywhere. And, since one of the greatest risks of going there is the burning sun, almost everyone takes the appropriate cautionary measures in order to avoid a much-dreaded sunburn.
However, what many people fail to notice is that the beach is not the only place where one can suffer the effects of sunburn, not by a long stretch. In fact, depending on where you happen to live, there is as much risk of getting sunburned as there is at the beach. Be it the club, a walk along the city streets on a sunny morning, or a simple visit to the park, the risk of getting sunburned can be even greater at these places since people will surely not be prepared for it in these locales.
As such, it becomes almost inevitable to get sunburned at some point of our lives. Thinking about that, here there are some tips in order to properly treat existing sunburns.
-
Use aloe vera: Aloe vera is a great healing substance as it sports highly appreciated anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties. As such, it will not only provide a cool and fresh sensation when applied directly to the affected skin, but it will also deeply moisturize it.
-
No tight clothes: This one might seem obvious to some, but when suffering from sunburn, it is mandatory not to wear any kind of tight clothes that might rub against the irritated skin. Otherwise there exists a great risk of making an already bad condition even worse.
-
Ibuprofen for the pain: Right, the very known Ibuprofen is not just used for headaches. In fact its composition makes it perfect for relieving any kind of pain. This is especially useful if the sunburn is particularly severe and causes a lot of pain.
-
Tomato to the rescue: A very little known secret for treating any kind of sunburn is to place cold tomato slices directly on the affected skin. Tomato is one of the vegetables that contain the most water and its effectiveness when treating sunburns can be incredibly surprising.
-
No sun and no dark clothes: Another obvious rule, but one lots of people fail to follow. Getting your already sunburned skin exposed to the sun can not only worsen the situation, but can also be the trigger for developing skin cancer. However, if you must expose your skin to the sun, make sure to wear only white clothes. This is due to the fact that black or any other dark clothes absorb the sunrays and the heat instead of reflecting them, which will just make things worse.
As you have seen, sunburns can not only be painful and bothersome, but can also pose a huge danger considering how much they increase the risk of developing skin cancer.
Considering this, the best course of action is to prevent sunburns by using sunblock not only when going to the beach, but anytime you know you will be exposed to the sun for long periods of time.
