The details of the leopard gecko hide are very important to watch for when designing their habitat. When designing the cage of your leo, you must take into consideration how many shelters you will provide. Basically, the rule of thumb is to provide at least two shelters for your pet; one will serve as their play area and the other one will be their hang out. This is important so as for your leo not to get bored. This will also be important in order for your leo to have variety of options. An ultimate habitat for a leopard gecko will have three shelters.
You might be wondering why paying extra attention to the details of your leopard gecko’s hide is very important. The answer is simple. The details of your leopard gecko’s hide are very important in keeping your leo healthy. The hide is essential for your gecko to have a safe environment, perfect place to relax and have adequate sleep, and shed off their skin without being disturbed. The feeling of being safe is very important for your gecko in order to avoid stress.
Before you decide on a hide for your gecko, consider this three basic leopard gecko hides. Leopard gecko hide must be warm, cool, and moist. All of these three hides are very important in controlling the body temperature of your leopard gecko.
To make a warm leopard gecko hide all you need to do is to put a heat source right below or above your home made or commercially made cage. A warm hide is very important, because often times, right after eating, a leopard gecko will enter the warm hide in order to increase their metabolism to aid in the process of their digestion.
Cool hide is important to control the body temperature of your leopard geck, knowing for a fact that leopard geckos are cold blooded. Without a cool shelter, your leopard gecko will not be able to regulate its body temperature. This is very dangerous because this can lead to death because of dehydration or over heating. A cool shelter is simply placed on the cooler side of the tank.
Finally, your leopard gecko’s hide must have a moist shelter. This specific hide is very beneficial to your leopard gecko although it is not really necessary to include this in your gecko’s habitat. A moist shelter can help your gecko a lot during shedding. The humid air helps the skin of the gecko to soften which will make it easier for the leopard gecko to shed off their skin.
Getting yourself familiar with these necessary types of shelter is very important before even starting to raise a leopard gecko. Sand inside your gecko’s habitat should also be avoided as it may cause threat to the health of your leopard gecko.
