Johnny Depp is an amazing actor and is known for his rolls playing wacky characters such as: Jack Sparrow, The Mad Hatter and Sweeney Todd. He chooses his roles in movies carefully, and instead of playing in movies that are certain to be box office hits he plays in films that he finds interesting to him personally. This is what makes him so great as an actor; he really gets into his characters and gives them such a personality that no one else could.

Depp has a close relationship with director Tim Burton and has starred in many of the director's films. When Depp was cast as Edward Scissorhands, he decided it was time to give up the teen idol image he had in his first few films and start becoming the actor he is today.

Johnny Depp Movies

Many may remember, back in the early 90s, Johnny Depp starred in his first Tim Burton Film called Edward Scissorhands. This was the role that started it all, though not his first film. The movie was about the creation (Edward) of an inventor who is taken in by a suburban family, the Boggs. Edward falls deeply in love with Kim, teenage daughter of the woman who took him in.

The neighborhood women become impressed with Edward's skill in cutting not only hair but also cutting bushes into the shapes of animals. However, after being framed for two crimes by Kim's boyfriend and a woman that Edward had rejected, he becomes an outcast along with the Boggs. Among all Johnny Depp movies, this very dramatic film is a "must see" for any Johnny Depp fan.

Most Famous Johnny Depp Movies

Depp did a series of movies for Disney known as The Pirates of the Caribbean, in which he stars as "Captain" Jack Sparrow. In Curse of the Black Pearl, Jack teams up with Will Turner, a town blacksmith, to chase after Captain Barbossa and his undead pirate shipmates. The pirates had attacked a port and kidnapped the Governor's daughter, Elizabeth Swan, with whom Will just happens to be secretly in love.

In the second Pirates movie, Deadman's Chest, Jack sets out to find the heart of Davey Jones to save his soul. What he doesn't realize is just as Elizabeth and Will were about to get married they were arrested for harboring a fugitive (Sparrow). Elizabeth and Will cut a deal with Lord Beckett to bring back Jack's trusty compass or hang as penalty for their crimes. Pirates of the Caribbean: Deadman's Chest is the highest grossing of all Johnny Depp movies to date, and among the top 10 highest grossing movies of all time (as of 2010).

In the third Pirates movie, At World's End, the crew of The Black Pearl, along with Elizabeth and Will, have to sail off of the world map to help save Jack from the land of the dead. Together, after saving Jack, they call upon the pirate lords of the world to fight for freedom against Lord Beckett, Davey Jones and James Norrington. The pirate lords have to pull together 9 pieces of gold in order to set free Calypso, Jones' damned lover, in hopes that she will help them fight.

The fourth edition, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (due out in 2011), sends Jack and Captain Barbossa on a journey to find the fountain of youth. What they didn't know was they were not the only ones after it. The two captains find themselves up against the infamous Blackbeard and his daughter, a woman from Jack's past. Jack thinks it's love until he is forced on another ship, The Queen Anne's Revenge. Now he's not sure whether she is using him or if she may love him too.

Other Johnny Depp Movies

Johnny Depp is known for his whacky characters, such as the ones in the movies above, as well as for his roles in movies like Chocolat, Finding Neverland, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, and Public Enemies.

In addition to his acting career, Johnny and his long-time girlfriend, Vanessa Paradis, own a vineyard and make wine. Depp also owned a restaurant/bar in Paris with other American actors. The bar is now a Lobster Cafe.

A self-professing "misunderstood" actor, Depp reminds me a bit of Frank Sinatra. He has made a name for himself and created a very successful career in spite of many box office and critical movie failures. Like Sinatra, however, Johnny Depp may go down in history with these words on his lips; "I did it my way."
