Hi. My name is Dr. Andrew Cook. Over time, the purpose of Dr. Cook’s Endometriosis and Pelvic Pain Blog will be to provide comprehensive, accurate information on the complex and often frustrating area of endometriosis and pelvic pain.

I have seen thousands of patients with endometriosis and pelvic pain over the last 20 years, many with tragic stories. They have not only suffered immensely, but have often been misdiagnosed and not treated properly, resulting in physical pain and suffering and unnecessary emotional pain and suffering.

Most of the general OB/GYNs trying to treat endometriosis are great people and good doctors. The problem is that the field of endometriosis and pelvic pain is in disarray. It seems that only a handful of dedicated physicians truly understand this disease. One of my main goals with this blog is to provide a comprehensive source for information on all aspects of dealing with this disease and help clear some of the confusion that so many patients run into in dealing with endometriosis and pelvic pain.

One other note. I started out writing a post reviewing my background because I thought it was important to help patients with endometriosis and pelvic pain to understand where I am coming from. I thought this would be one post, but it is turning into many more. I hope it is not too much information, but it is interesting how life develops. I am passionate about helping patients with endometriosis and pelvic pain and advancing this field of medicine in general. Women who have been afflicted with this disease, in my experience are amazing individuals who are brave and determined in what can be overwhelming life circumstances – it is the disease that is horrible. Unfortunately, all too often the patient gets blamed for the problem – not the disease.

Since it looks like I will be posting about my background and story for a while, I am going to have a second post each week on Thursday that will deal with some of the medical issues encountered with endometriosis and pelvic pain. For those of you currently suffering with this condition, hang in there. There is hope. There are effective treatments for endometriosis and pelvic pain!
