It seems everyone these days is looking for ways to browse smarter and worked harder, yet more efficiently while they’re online. Thankfully, there are many tools that can help you do just that. From thousands of productivity applications for your smartphone and computer to virus protection software that could truly change the way you protect your machine, good software tools are simply part of the shared vocabulary in the online word. Unfortunately, so are rogue software programs, and despite how helpful the name sounds, many of these aren’t ready to help you at all. In fact, they’re not even designed to help you. The program coding simply isn’t there. Smart Engine is one such rogue security program, and unlike it’s name, it’s really not a very intelligent thing to have installed on your computer.
Noticing Smart Engine
If you do have this program installed on your machine, there are several things you are likely to notice about it immediately.
-
A scan of your machine will begin as soon as you turn on your computer each day. The scan window looks like that of other security software solutions, and in some ways, it even mimics the popular Windows Defender. Each time the scan completes, you’ll see a number of different problems the program supposedly found. Keep in mind that Smart Engine has actually installed some files with these names when it installed itself, so the chances are good that your computer isn’t actually infected with anything. It will also ask you to remove the files, but doing so means purchasing the full version of the program which can’t offer you much more help than you’re getting from this version.
-
Security warnings while you work on your computer are also quite common with this program. You might see one that says "System Alert: Malicious applications, which may contain Trojans, were found on your computer and are to be removed immediately. Click here to remove these potentially harmful items using Smart Engine." That, however, is not the only warning you may see, but all of them mention the actual program by name.
-
As with many other similar programs, you’re also likely to notice a real problem with system resources. Because Smart Engine, like so many rogue security programs, has the ability to turn on as soon as your computer does, it can use the resources your computer needs to run other programs, and that can cause your system to feel slower than it should.
Smart Engine Warnings
Even if you have amazing antivirus software, Smart Engine may still be part of your computer. It’s rogue security software, so your virus program doesn’t have the definition files necessary to catch it. Most users report actually encountering the program when they visit a site that asks them to install a video Codec or a software update needed to view a certain video online. Smart Engine then installs itself as soon as you click on the machine.
There are a number of different ways to remove the program itself, but the key here is to actually get it off your system, as it can create other security holes you probably don’t want to deal with in the future.
