Pretty much your dog can fall asleep anywhere and in any type of position. Did you know that the how your canine sleeps provides clues as to the type of bed it desires? My one dog loves to dog curl up while the other sprawls out and falls asleep. Sometimes dogs will snooze on their backs or on their stomach. Some dogs think their humans and cuddle up on the couch or fall asleep on the bed using your pillow.

With so many different ways dogs sleep, finding the best dog beds is more difficult than it seems. There is quite the large variety of them. Here is a list of some of the more popular dog bed style sure to satisfy even the pickiest of nappers:

Standard dog bed - Standard dog beds are basically cushions or pillows without any edges or rims. You can find them available in different shapes, sizes, materials and colors. They are available in round, oval, rectangular and square. Standard beds are normally covered with common materials like fleece, flannel, denim, faux suede, or microfiber.

Nest dog beds - Nest beds are comparable to standard dog beds, except the edges are raised. The bed rims sometimes surround the entire bed or only a small segment of the bed. There are some manufacturers who make nest beds to resemble sofas or couches. The raised edge feature makes it ideal for a dog who likes to lean on or curl up.

Orthopedic beds- Orthopedic dog beds are intended specially for canines with arthritis or other types of orthopedic troubles. They are made with thick foam which provides the extra support needed for your dog's body. The foam put less stress on its joints too. While comfortable for any type of dog, older and very thin dogs benefit the most from orthopedic beds.

Raised beds – Some pet companies design beds which are raised a little off the floor. They are available in standard, nest, orthopedic beds or even mattresses inside a raised frame. The frames are either made of wood, wicker, metal or plastic. I’ve seen a few raised beds designed to look miniature dog-sized sofas, even down to the smallest feature.

Heated dog beds – Are you looking to your pooch an extra-warm place to snuggle up this winter? There is no better way than a heated dog bed. Combined with orthopedic features, heated beds are very beneficial for dogs that suffer from achy joints. They basically work like a heating pad or an electric blanket.
