Skin care is essential in keeping the skin healthy and to slow down its aging. Over time and with the harsh elements from the environment, the skin gets old and dry. A good skin care routine requires constant care and a lot of effort. Regular visits to a spa to pamper your skin really helps but can be very expensive. There are, however, some remedies that are present at home to have a clear and smooth skin.

To attain clear and smooth skin, it needs proper cleansing and moisturizing. Regularly cleanse the skin to remove dirt and prevent the occurrence problems such as pimples and acne. In taking a bath or shower, never use very hot water. Hot water makes the skin very dry. Warm water is good as it opens the pores to help remove the dirt.

Dead skin cells that are present on skin make the skin looking dry and ashy. To remove these dead skin cells, proper exfoliating is the solution. Exfoliate the skin two or three times a week. Never perform exfoliation for more than three times a week as too much may cause damage to the skin. Use exfoliating products, of which there are plenty to choose from on the market. Having a good exfoliating product can sometimes be costly depending on the brand.

If you don't want to use exfoliating products or you are on a tight budget, you can still exfoliate using sugar. Sugar is completely safe to use and is also very effective as an exfoliant. Make sure that you've bathed or showered before exfoliating to open the pores. Then apply a small amount of sugar and rub it gently in a circular motion.

To rinse the sugar or the exfoliating product off, using cold water is good. Cold water is very refreshing on skin and also closes the skin's pores. You may also put ice on the cleansed and exfoliated skin to close the pores.

Applying moisturizers daily on skin is also necessary. Moisturizing keeps the skin smooth and slows down the aging process. Use lotions or moisturizing products to protect and moisturize the skin. Honey is also a great skin moisturizer. Apply honey onto the skin and leave it for few minutes. Thoroughly rinse off the honey as leaving it for a longer period of time may cause irritation, especially to those with very sensitive skin. Applying moisturizers or honey should give you a smoother and younger looking skin.
