Situated in Chandler Arizona just South of Phoenix is the huge, gated golf community of Sun Lakes. The Sun Lakes development consists of 6,700 homes built between 1972 and 2007. The existing population of Sun Lakes is approximately 15,000. Robson communities, the developer, was also the builder on all homes. The development is comprised of 5 neighborhoods, all with their own golf course and clubhouse.

Homes vary in size from 1,000 to in excess of 3,500 square feet and there is a wide array to pick from. There are various home styles and consumers can choose from manufactured homes, town homes or single family detached homes. Prices vary widely depending on what sort of home, its locality and age. Consumers can choose between older homes that might need some work and upgrading or newer homes with modern floor plans and attractive upgrades. Costs at this time range from under $100,000 to more than $600,000. Association premiums typically run from $75 - $125 dollars per month.

There are so many amenities in Sun Lakes it's almost impossible to list them all but here is a short list. One of the most popular activities is of course golf! Then, how about bowling, tennis, bridge, bingo, dance, walking/hiking trails, fitness centers, fishing, biking, pools and the list goes on and on. You name it and Sun Lakes probably has it!

Located outside the development just a short distance is an array of shopping and stores including a Bashas supermarket, CVS Pharmacy, True Value hardware store, medical facilities, church's and a number of small shopping centers. Downtown Phoenix is a short 24 miles away for those Phoenix Suns basketball games and Diamondback baseball games.

In the last several years, as most people are aware, Phoenix area real estate values have dropped dramatically. The unique thing about Sun Lakes, as well as most other retirement/golf communities in the Phoenix area, is that home values have held up quite well taking into consideration what has happened to other Phoenix area communities. Sun Lakes home prices are presently roughly the same as they were 4 years ago and seem to be holding steady. With that said it's a pretty good time to purchase a home in the Sun Lakes area, particularly if you are financing given the present state of interest rates.

If you want to own a winter home it's hard to beat day time temperatures in the 70's and night temperatures in the 40's. An abundance of sunshine, a large number of activities and picturesque grounds... if you are considering proudly owning a winter home you owe it to yourself to check out Sun Lakes Arizona!
