This A/W there were some striking colour trends on the catwalk. From softer calmer shades, like camel, to bright primary colours, this season is all about colour. Colour can be as important for staying on trend as the style of your clothing, so to help you keep up to date and in style here is a guide to what colours are in this season.

Camel

Camel is the headlining colour of the season. Found on coats, handbags, shoes and knitwear camel was everywhere on the A/W catwalks. In summary, if it’s in camel then it’s on trend. Camel is a lovely warm and soft colour so it’s flattering and easy to wear. Camel also goes well with other autumnal colours such as reds and deep browns. As camel is such a classic colour it’s worth investing in a key piece, such as a coat, as it will become a wardrobe staple and will last for years to come.

Sumptuous colours

As part of the fantasy look, bold sumptuous colours are in as they play a central role in this exotic and escapist style. Almost any colour works as long as it is deep and sumptuous and worn with other colours. Vibrant reds and purples should be teamed with accents of gold and green to ensure the look is luxurious and decadent. This style isn’t about block colour, instead it centres upon mixes of deep colours in floral patterns or as part of embellished detailing.

Earth tones

In keeping with the outdoors/country look, which is very big this season, earth tones are staple colours of A/W. Greens and browns are incorporated into tweed jackets and chord trousers, whilst slate greys can be seen in knitwear, coats and knee high socks. Footwear also embraces these earth tones, from brown knee high riding boots, to chunky grey ankle boots. The trend for fur also incorporates earth tones. All sorts of different shades of brown can be seen in fur coats, trims, and scarves as well as tones of white, grey and mustard.

Bright colours

For footwear this season, bright block colours are in. From ankle boots to court shoes, all sorts of primary colours work for this look. On the catwalk electric blues as well as bright citrus oranges were seen on pointed ballet pumps, as were hot pinks and silver greys. This look works with just a single block colour, or with a combination of block colours, such as one colour for the heel, one for the shoe, and a contrasting colour for the detail on the toe.

Feminine colours

As part of the feminine and womanly looked showcased by designers such as Louis Vuitton, soft ladylike colours are a key trend this season. Pastel shades of pink and blue in subtle floral prints are big, as are subtle greens and greys. For a slightly bolder look go for purples and blues, but make sure to keep it on the lighter side in order to ensure your look is soft and feminine.

Jake Reacher likes Matalan women's clothes, and in particular cheap evening dresses as they come in a wide variety of this season’s colours.
