This city has a perfect combination of natural resources and environments, and tourism infrastructure, an irresistible combo for any enthusiastic visitor.
At the heart of Mendoza, San Rafael offers its visitors a pleasant climate during the entire year and a huge variety of tourist activities and beautiful landscapes.
The city of San Rafael, located 232 kilometers away from Mendoza city, is a great starting point to places like The Nihuil, Valle Grande and El Cañón del Atuel (The Atuel Canyon).
San Rafael is crisscrossed by the Atuel and the Diamond Rivers, both of fast currents, ideal for practicing extreme sports such as kayaking and rafting.
Another aspect that gives splendor to the area of San Rafael is the number of dams and artificial lakes spread over the region. The most important are El Tigre (The Tigre), Reyunos, Agua del Toro (Bull´s Water), Valle Grande and El Nihuil. In these reservoirs you can try water sports like fly casting, diving, catamaran sailing, windsurfing and water skiing.
The most important and popular tourist circuit in San Rafael is the Atuel Canyon. The Nihuil is the departure point for this tour. It is a quiet village where you can enjoy the magnificence of this colossal reservoir. The second part of the travel involves moving through the Atuel Canyon, watching the wonderful sculptures of nature and the stone walls of 350 meters high.
The last step before returning to the city is Valle Grande, a huge dam at the foot of the canyon, ideal for relaxing on the shore, taking a bath or make adventure tourism.
In San Rafael you can also take a tour to the wineries and vineyards. During this kind of visits you have the chance to know the sites from which the wine and champagne of high quality come. The youngest visitors, with several nightclubs and bars in the city of San Rafael can also enjoy the nightlife in Cuyo region.
