Heading south from the city of Mendoza, you will reach Luján de Cuyo, head of an important agricultural and industrial department. Since 1880 this town has experienced a great progress, mainly due to the construction of the dam César Cipolletti and the irrigation works carried on the area.
The square of Luján de Cuyo is one of the most attractive in Mendoza, full of trees and colorful flowers, which still retain the small town spirit. The civic, religious and commercial center of the city develops around this beautiful plaza.
Hydroelectric works and several factories are settled next to the river, adjacent to an important oil refinery. The Luján de Cuyo department groups several districts and has its own cultural life, offering a fantastic nightlife. The area has many wineries, among which stands the worldwide famous Chandon Winery. Internationally celebrated for its fine sparkling wines, this bodega was the first subsidiary outside France. the ideal characteristics of the land and the weather offer an outstanding environment for grapevine growing.
In fact, the province of Mendoza has many mansions, ranches and farms devoted to the production of excellent wines. The area of Luján de Cuyo is where the Wine Routes become more relevant. The wine tours take visitors to know each one of the most relevant wineries and learn all about the history, culture and lifestyle of the people from Mendoza, putting them in contact with the homeowner, the old furniture, the current incorporation of a high level of comfort, and carrying them to the incredible world of traditional wine stores.
During their stay at these farms the visitors get to enjoy delicious typical food, to know how they carry out the production of jams and preserves, and it is an excellent opportunity to learn the secrets of the development of different types of wines. The guests can also take part in exciting riding, trekking and other outdoor activities, complemented in some cases with photographic safaris or fishing excursions before returning to Mendoza’s 5 Stars Hotel in the civic center of the capital city.
