As you create your online business there are several things you will need to do. The first important step you need to do even before your website or blogs creation is deciding on the niche you would like to create in and the keywords you will target. My favorite niche is the make money online niche which consists of learning how to make money online using different methods. This niche is one of the most overpopulated, but luckily I know enough about keywords to target an audience much better than the majority of my competition. This is the level of knowledge about keywords you will need to know if you plan on succeeding. Pick a niche that you feel very passionate about and will be willing to work in for years. You should also know the level of traffic that your niche is getting which you can find by using Google Adwords Keyword Tool.
If you search google for "google adwords keyword tool" it will be in the first spot. Open it and type in a term that you think people will be searching for. This tool will not only bring up the monthly traffic for the term you are looking at, but also around a hundred other related terms. Scan through all of these terms because they will be the keywords you should target. Take the top searched keywords and optimize your index page with them. You should have them in your URL, title, and content. Then with the rest of the keywords you will want to optimize your sub pages. Personally this is the reason I really enjoy blogging you can create posts with the title of keywords searched within your niche. It is possible to do this with a static website as well. If you see a term when you search the google adwords tool create a sub page with the title of the term and put the term in the content.
Creating keyword optimized content should be a goal of yours, but there are thousands of other webmasters who have this knowledge and will be creating the same types of content. There is a way to separate your content in the SERPs from the other websites that are going after the same term. If you want to out rank your competition then you will need to build keyword anchored backlinks. This means that rather than putting the URL in-between the anchor tags you should put the keywords you are trying to rank well for. The first backlinks should all be built towards your main index page, but as you reach the top of Google and other major search engines for that term you can move onto the sub pages you optimized for less searched key terms.
There are many places you can build keyword backlinks from. Start with directorycritic.com and submit to all the free directories making sure to put keywords in the title. The next place is finding a list of article directories which you can do by searching Google for "list of article directories". Write articles and in the resource put the links to your site making sure to add keywords. You will not see results until you build thousands of backlinks so try and build as many as you can each day. Usually I build a hundred each day which is why my websites rank well for the terms I want to rank well for.
