The Espace Killy is world renowned for the quality of skiing that it offers its hundreds of thousands of visitors each year. However, the resort of Val D'Isere is leading the way by offering activities other that skiing to its clientele. Companies offering centrally located top ski quality chalets, why should the chic and cosmopolitan resort of Val D'Isere only be enjoyed by those who like to ski?
Spearheading this shift towards the non-skier is the Oxygen Sports and Aquatic centre, new to Val D'Isere for the 2009-10 season. With the emphasis on health and well-being, this state of the art leisure centre has got it all: 250m2 swimming pool, 430m leisure pool, a 135m2 climbing area, multi-activity sports hall, fitness suite, gym, squash courts and a huge wellness zone (sauna, steam bath, spa, cold baths, hydro-massage) and a lounge area. If you like to dabble on the piste and have bought yourself a lift pass, you can use most of the facilities in the sports centre.
The Leisure centre is structured around 4 areas of focus: the children can enjoy 'Beach World' with the swimming pool, aqua fun zone, kiddies zone, health club zone, steam baths and saunas. You can get involved in team sports at the sports world, offering volley ball, football, basket ball, badminton and table tennis. Exercise world offers you the gym, squash, fitness classes and yoga and finally, the Lounge world is the place to head to after you exertions to unwind and relax before heading back to your chalet, or out to lunch at one of Val D'Isere's many wonderful restaurants.
If you are keen to get out in the great out doors, there are many companies out there keen to take you out and show you the mountains in whatever style suits you best. If you like to get away from the adrenaline junkies and the peace and quiet of secluded mountain tracks is more your thing, snowshoeing is a great way of getting out and about. Hire an instructor for the day and he/she will provide you with 'raquettes' to attach to your feet so that you can negotiate the deep, unpisted snow and guide you through stunning scenery. This is a great opportunity to learn more about the history of the resort, with many a local resort anecdote and mountain knowledge being one of the specialties of the guides. At the end of your day, you can be assured that you have earned those extra calories that will undoubtedly be laid on in your catered ski chalet.
Whether you chose to spend your day lunching in the wonderful restaurants, browsing the shops, or partaking in something a little more adventurous, your ski chalet in Val D'Isere will provide you with the perfect base from which to enjoy all that the resort has to offer.
