The initial month with your new baby is a time of joy and adjusting. The both of you are getting to know one another and very soon you will fall into a pattern that works well for you both. But as you are perfecting that routine, be certain that you're attending to your self. I am sure by now you have realized that the new bundle of joy requires you at all times. So it is now even more essential that you keep well and healthy. Here are some actions you can take to help keep you going.

One thing to do, is to put your to do list aside. If something comes to mind that you need to do, write it down on your list, after which walk away from the list. Now is not the time for you to be super mom, you will have sufficient time for that in the months and years to come. For now your main job is to help your infant to get use to his new environment and to take care of you. You have to let go of needing to get everything done. The floor may need scrubbed, but it can wait, the laundry might be mounting up but it doesn't all need to be done today. Of course, if someone offers to assist, take them up on the offer. Now is also time for you to ask for help.

You'll want to rest when you can. So when baby takes a nap, so should you. Many new mothers try and get things completed while the baby is sleeping, only to end up being near full exhaustion in a really small amount of time. Your routine will take shape shortly and you can get more done, but until that happens, get your rest. Everyone knows that if we are tired, our thinking is not well balanced and we can get edgy and irritable. Infants can easily sense that edginess and it makes them less content and even more likely to cry which contributes to your already out of balance state. Thus stop the cycle and just get some sleep when your baby is resting.

It's fundamental that you eat properly. A glass of milk and an Oreo on the run is not a well-balanced meal. It is essential that you maintain your strength up. You'll need to be eating healthy so that you can keep up your strength. That sweet baby is depending on you, therefore it is so essential that you take good care of you. You might not have the time to make a huge healthy meal, however, you can still eat healthy. A quick salad and sandwich for dinner is superior to a bag of microwave popcorn. Grab some grapes and cottage cheese in between diapers and feeding.

Even though you devote the first month connecting with your baby its okay to let someone else hold the baby. So let someone watch the baby why you take a shower. A shower is a great tension reducer and can make you feel so much better. As much as this bonding time with your baby is important, you have to keep balance, so permit someone to watch the baby while you take some ‘you time’. You time can happen in 15 minute spurts as well. If you cannot sleep while baby is sleeping take the time to read. A few minutes of reading can invigorate you. A book is a fantastic idea as it transports you to another time and place. You'll be so refreshed and ready to change those dirty diapers. In addition take time to connect with the outside world. Chat with friends on the phone, or via e-mail. E-mail and Facebook are great since you can send a message even in the wee hours of the morning when you are feeding the baby.
