Not Ranking Well? ... Read This

Have you ever wondered why one site will rank better than another?

The algorithm and how it works is the one thing that holds true across the board for internet marketing. One of the most important things you need to understand is that the search engine is mathematical software and it scores each web page on many, many things that it has determined to be important. The algorithm will rank everything that it deems as important within your site and rank you accordingly by a mathematical formula.

You need to really understand this idea as it will help you to more thoroughly understand how you can, and what you need to do, to get your site a good ranking. Expect this all to take some time, it won't be an overnight success. First things first and I always feel that starting with the code of the site is best with content coming in second.

It used to be a lot of code work to optimize a website, and in the early days that is where we concentrated most. Utilizing good titles, keywords in heading tags, proper code and keyword emphasis were all a big part of the game.

Code is still important, although no where near as important as it was years ago, you still want to have properly coded site. You will want to go through your entire site and update everything for good useage of CSS. Other really important things to do and should be done next are the title tags, keyword density, navigation and other basic part of the site. Be certain that your navigation is simple to follow for both the engines and your users.

Navigation is extremely important to have set up so that it is obvious how to get around your site, if it isn't people will probably not even try to figure out how to move around the site. Navigation needs to be right there, in plain sight, easy to use and it should be obvious how to use it. It is really easy to lose a visitor if they can't figure out your navigation. They will close the window or click back and be gone. Once your site is settled you need to get onto inbound links from other sites.

If you have any control at all over the inbound links you will generate, and often you will, you want to use your most important keywords as the anchor text. There is so much to be talked about with inbound linking that it is way beyond what can be taught in this article. My free SEO course goes into much more detail than I could provide here. There is a lot of information at my site as well. Links are like a "favorable vote" for your site from the site the link comes from.

The engines understand that it is not the easiest thing in the world to get someone to visit our sites, therefore it stands to reason that if we send them to another site it must be for a good reason. The algorithm will score each of these inbound links and keep track of all that information. The algorithms are complicated but they take all these scores and break them down into sections and then score our sites accordingly.

Relevancy counts. If the site that an inbound comes from is about the same thing your site is about then that link will be seen more favorably than one from an irrelevant site. Since these relevant links pointing at us will carry more weight it should be obvious that we want to develop as many of these as we possibly can.

In order to rank well on the search engines you need to have a search engine friendly website. You need to SEO your website. You can learn how to do it yourself, or you can hire an SEO Specialist to do the job correctly
