In our effort to understand Link Building Strategies we can divide them into into two general types, Whitehat Link Building and Blackhat Link Building.

But things are not that simple in the real world. Nothing stays the same for long and it's hard to be sure what link building strategy is considered Whitehat and what is considered Blackhat. Let's take a closer look at Reciprocal Links for a moment. In the past, Reciprocal Links were pretty much an alternative to no links for most webmasters. And Google hates websites with no links. Building Reciprocal Links used to be a time-consuming monster and everyone had to feed it. But technology has evolved to the point where anyone that can edit a .php file and cut and paste some code can setup an Automated Linking Service for their website and cut the amount of time and effort down to a fraction of what it used to be. If you know what you are doing and which Automated Linking Service best fits your needs, the process of Reciprocal Linking is simple, flexible and efficient task.

In fact, Reciprocal Linking is nothing at all like it used to be. You can select your link partners from a list of 40 to 50 categories. You can select your partners based on Google PageRank or Alexa ranking. You don't have to check your partners or edit a links page or any of the other things that made Reciprocal Linking unpleasant in the past.

So that's all fine and dandy, but Reciprocal Link are still just that. And besides the fact that they are of less value than one way links, you still have to be cautious because no matter how easy Reciprocal Linking becomes, you are responsible for every site you link to. In other words, if you happen to link to a website that has been banned by Google, you run the risk of being associated with that site and may pay a steep price for your mistake. It's kind of like an Sexually Transmitted Disease.

Whitehat webmasters, stop reading here!
