Well that’s great, as building your own is simpler than most folk think. Home growing with hydroponic gardening systems can easily be built at home, even if your not the DIY type of person.
· How Simple Can Hydroponic Be?
Hydroponic can be as simple as just a coca-cola bottle, a small air pump, and some hydroponic nutrients, this is the kind of hydro setup that you’ll find in a school classroom experiment.
On the other hand, some can look real complicated, like aeroponic growing systems, which are a type of hydroponic system, except there’s no growing medium involved in the growing process.
Because Aeroponics uses high-output fishpond pumps "pumping water about, under pressure," attention needs to be taken when constructing home-made Aeroponics as there’s always a chance for nutrient solution to be flung about " which is never a great idea when there’s electrics about."
· So Why Build Your Own Hydroponics System
Growing with hydroponic, simply put "can increase" crop size, now I say can increase plant yield, as a badly run/built/setup hydro system, will maybe only grow plants as well as if they were still in soil, or worse kill your hydro plants all together, but when done well "which isn’t that difficult" can be like growing plants at x3 the speed.
· Hydro VS Soil
Growing with hydroponics is far more environmentally friendly than soil "why I hear you ask," when growing with hydroponics, no water is wasted, as plant only use what’s needed, and what’s not used, simply filter back, the hydro resisvor where it stored, with the nutrients, till the next feeding cycle.
Plant’s can also be grown much closer together than they ever could be grown in field or greenhouses, as the roots don’t need to search for water as all the nutrients and water are all directly feed to your plants.
Bought compost is made up with peat, from peat bogs, which is very very slow growing, so slow that it takes "thousands" of years of layers of decomposing mater to decompose and build up into habitats, and only take moments to be dug up, so’s someone can have there ready made bag of compost.
· Any Other Reasons To Build Your Own Hydroponics System
By the time soil, peat, and collected household food waste has been treated and mixed, plus nutrients added and then finally transported half way round the world, by inefficient truck, which are still know more efficient as they were two decades ago, so why wouldn’t you change to hydroponic gardening.
As an avid gardener for many years and also worked in garden nursery's with interests in hydroponics stretching back to the early 90's http://www.hydroponic-growing-systems.com/build-your-own-hydroponics-system.html at http://www.hydroponic-growing-systems.com/index.html
