In Las Heras, only a few miles away from the Mendoza’s 5 Stars Hotel, we can get to the district of El Challao, a lovely place in the province of Mendoza. With its 1,600 meter-high, the Cerro Arco (Arch Mount) is an eternal guardian of the most diverse adventure sports. Hang gliders and paragliders daze viewers who come there to enjoy the voyage of these flying men.

The colors of the gliders, so live and vibrant, beautify the roof of the Andean Mountain Range. Parasailing is a sport discipline, with particular techniques and certain rules. However, some try this activity for the simple pleasure of flying, alone or in company.

There are plenty of instructors who offer the chance to learn to fly or just bring the opportunity to experience the pleasure of being suspended over the hills. These are called tandem flights and everybody can try them.

El Challao is very suitable for the practice of this sport, since the region is free of lines of power grids, trees or buildings that endanger the performances of the athletes. Especially for beginners or amateurs, who need to be sure that there are no obstructions to make their learning process even more difficult. The flying field is very comfortable and safe, due to its low height vegetation, which allows professionals and novices to get to land without difficulty.

At night, flights in the light of the full moon will turn into an irresistible temptation for people who wish a special experience. Like full moon rafting in the Mendoza River, the sky in Cuyo region provides the most splendid scenario. Given the favorable conditions of the prevailing winds, they will be able to fly there for very long times, day and night.

The access to the site is easy and fast as it has very direct wayside routes. From General San Martin Park, it requires only 5 minutes to reach it and only 15 minutes if you are coming from the Mendoza’s 5 Stars Hotel. Today, El Challao receives visitors from all over the world, such as Germany, USA, Denmark, Israel, South Africa, Mexico, Russia, Britain, Italy, Norway, among others. All of them attracted by the possibility of flying in the mountains, in the region known as the Precordillera (pre mountain range), and being indefinitely suspended in the air, with the hills and the city resting at their feet.
