In the early 1990's there was one thing that took the weight loss world by storm - the detox! With countless spin-offs the idea of cleansing your system to promote weight loss is indeed a very valid one and something that can truly promote weight loss. The problem is that most products these days do not provide a healthy basis for doing it and doing a "rapid detox" with some gimmick pill or potion is not the way to cleanse your system. This is where fasting for weight loss comes in.

Fasting is an age old principle and virtually all eastern religions have fasting as part of their spiritual tradition. Even though modern Christians don't practice it anymore it used to be big part of early Christian living. Whilst the spiritual benefits are debatable, the physical benefits are cold hard facts.

Fasting can help cleanse your system unlike any colon cleanser on the market simply because it gives your system the opportunity to clean itself. Our modern diets are laced with all sorts of chemicals and the average person's digestive system is overloaded to the point where the body cannot maintain its own weight.

When you fast for weight loss you simply allow your body the "rest" to catch up and restore itself. If you consider the sheer amount of food we eat, its no wonder we are overweight. The simple truth is that the more you eat, the more you CAN eat - and the more we tend to eat. If you stop and look at the amount of food you really need to be healthy then you'd be shocked.

Fasting for weight loss does not mean you stop eating. It simply means that you stop eating at certain times. Since we can survive roughly 40 days without food, there is no real danger when fasting for 1 day and this is where the concept of intermittent fasting comes in. By simply fasting in a certain set pattern you can get all the benefits of fasting without the obvious pain and struggle of going without food.

At first the idea of fasting can be scary and to think that you have to go a whole day without food, but as you learn the process and get used to it, the sheer increase in energy and amount of weight you lose gives you a lot of motivation to push on. Unlike traditional dieting you don't have to give up on any food (which is why most diets fail). You simply control when you eat them. In the end anything in moderation is acceptable and if you are fasting for weight loss you don't have to ever diet again.
