If you’re a seasoned pro, then you probably already have a set of grill tools that are ideal for your grilling needs. But if backyard grilling is a new adventure for you, you might not know exactly what you require, what will work best and what will make using and maintaining your grill easy and convenient. While outdoor gas grills like Weber grills typically have different types of features than charcoal grills, there are some basic grilling accessories you will need, no matter what type of grill you own. You might be tempted just to grab a fork or an egg lifter from your arsenal of kitchen utensils, but as with any task, the right tools always make it easier (and more enjoyable).
Basic Grilling Accessories
It will be the same for Weber Grills, outdoor gas grills and charcoal grills. If you’re standing in front of one with the intention of barbecuing hamburgers for the family or steaks for a backyard full of friends, you will need the following:
· a grilling spatula – grilling spatulas are typically designed with longer handles to reduce the likelihood of being burnt while working at the grill
· grilling tongs make it easy to flip, rearrange or quickly remove an item of food off the grill; for easy clean-up, select stainless steel grilling tongs since they are more durable and easier to clean
· a grill fork – allows you to turn over and handle meat easily while preventing you from getting too near the heat source or a hot metal rack
· if you intend on marinading meat while it’s on the grill, a basting brush is a must
· particularly if you like kebabs (vegetarian or otherwise), invest in a good set of grilling skewers
· while a barbecue apron really will have no bearing on how easy or convenient it makes cooking on a grill, it will certainly show everyone who is boss (at least of the grill)
Specialized Grilling Accessories
Because charcoal grills tend to have fewer features than outdoor gas grills including brand name manufacturers like Weber Grills or Napoleon Grills, there are some specialized grilling accessories that are great to have if you own (or are interested in owning) an outdoor gas grill.
· a grill basket is designed to cook food that is difficult to flip or might get stuck such as some types of vegetables, fruit, etc. and typically resemble a flat colander; they can also look like a perforated pot
· a fry basket is ideal for French fries and seafood
· a griddle is a must-have grill accessory when cooking eggs, ham or bacon on a regular basis
Maintenance Grilling Accessories
Remember that it must be cleaned after each time it’s been used and to use cleaning products made especially for grills: you don’t want to harm your investment with harsh chemicals.
· a good, multi-purpose grill bush
· soft cloth preferably one with natural fibers
It doesn’t matter whether we’re talking about Weber Grills, outdoor gas grills or charcoal grills : no matter what type of grill you buy (but yes, charcoal grills tend to be a little messier), it will need cleaning.
