If you notice that your toddler gets easily discouraged or even irritable with his regular routines, one cause might be that he is over-tired and maybe not getting adequate or the correct kind of sleep. Toddlers sometimes develop plenty of physical tiredness and tension but don’t realize exactly how exhausted they really are. This is where parents can help intervene and ensure their youngster gets the corresponding quantity of relaxation.
One of the most important aspects to this is the changeover from daytime play to night time rest. Parents can help their child proceed from the busy and lively day time environment to the peaceful, quiet night time by easing them with a consistent process every night. This usually involves a routine starting after dinner that can include drawing, watching television or a video, reading books, and a bath. All of this is the gentle turning down that is done to get your toddler prepared for rest.
Your toddler’s bed is an important part of the as well. Their bed should be something they associate with rest and peacefulness. While numerous kids use their bed for other activities like playing and artwork, it needs to be considered a location they associate with warmth, comfort, and nighttime. Many parents choose a child bed that has a theme related to it, like a character or even nature theme which their child recognizes with and makes them feel safe and at home.
The parent’s mood and temperament is important during this time as well. Children are very keen especially when it comes to their own parents. If you are really busy and sidetracked during bedtime, for example cleaning or even watching TV, your toddler will notice. Try to avoid other activities which are ‘stressful’ during this period, devote a while to your child like reading, and this will comfort and ease them and most importantly not distract them. If you're relaxed and relaxed during bedtime, chances are your child will as well.
Consistency is the name of the game, therefore try to start the actual routine at the same time each night. Your child’s bedtime should generally be the same every night, this means lights out at a constant time for optimum results. A essential element here (if you haven’t already learned this the hard way) is not staying with your son or daughter until they drift off. This is definitely an incredibly hard habit to break.
So if your son or daughter is extremely active, and is tired at night but is still not fully obtaining the relaxation and sleep he or she needs, focus on the transitions from busy day to quiet night. Your kid is going to be on a path towards happier days.
