When you’re shopping for a conference table, there are a multitude of things you need to consider before hand over your hard-earned cash. While some of the bigger concerns should be on the size and shape of the conference table don’t get tunnel vision and forget about the smaller additions that can add up to a make a great table. So what are some of these extra features that make or break your table? Let’s take a look.

Table Base

One of the most overlooked features on a conference table is the table base. Of course the main role of a table base is to support the table and keep it steady. Anytime you have a conference table that wobbles or isn’t completely sturdy, there’s a problem. Your base should keep the table level no matter where on the table top weight is distributed.

The other role of a base is to provide an additional bit of aesthetic. While the size, shape and tabletop garner the most attention, the table base adds a quiet bit of visual interest.

Types of Table Bases

Legs are the most common type of table base there is. The number of legs will depend on the size and shape of the table, but there will be enough so that weight on top of the table will be equally distributed, eliminating any chance of the table being upended. Table legs can come in a variety of different shapes and styles, including curved, decorated or clean.

Pedestal bases are thick bases that support the weight of the table. Most tables need only one or two pedestals, as they’re large enough to keep the table stable For instance, a smaller round table would only need one pedestal. The benefits of pedestal bases are that people sitting won’t have to worry about obtrusive table legs, they’re easier to clean around, and they make for a simple, less cluttered look.

Trestle tables have two trestle legs connected by a central beam or a board underneath the tabletop. Once again, these are space savers that give people more space for their legs and feet.

You’ll find other variations of these pedestals, from X-shaped, H-shaped, or V-shaped bases.

Wire Management

A quietly helpful feature available with many conference tables is wire management. Sure it’s not the most high-tech thing in the world, but a slot for chords to reach through effectively hides power cables and other chords so that your table has a clean and uncluttered look.

Mobile Conference Tables

Exactly as the name implies. These conference tables have casters attached to the table legs so that they can be easily moved from place to place. This is often a great addition, especially for those that need to shift the position of the table on a regular basis. Because conference tables can often be quite heavy, this feature will save you time and a sore back.

When browsing conference tables, be sure to keep some of these small features in mind, as they can end up making a big difference. All conference tables – from round conference tables to modular conference tables – will have additional features that might sway your choice.
