Proper grooming is one of the essential aspects in a dog's health. It is important to maintain the dog's cleanliness to prevent them from acquiring some sort of diseases such as skin infection. Basic grooming needs of dogs include regular bathing, brushing and trimming of hairs, ear and teeth cleaning and nail clipping.
Most dogs hate the grooming sessions especially bathing, but doing it on a regular basis would make them used to the routine. The good thing about dogs is they don't need to bathe as often as humans do. It depends on their breed and hair type. It is important to ascertain what sort of cleaning the dog needs and make sure you have the appropriate grooming tools and supplies for your pet.
Many grooming tools and supplies are now available in pet supplies stores that will cater for the dog's needs. Some of these are combs and brushes, scissors and clippers. Dogs need to be combed or brushed regularly to keep their hair shiny and tangle free. If the dog's hair is long, trimming with the use of an appropriate pair of scissors is necessary. The toenails also need to be regularly trimmed.
In giving the dog a bath, you will need some bathing essentials such as shampoo, conditioner, towel and hair dryer. The shampoo and conditioner must suit with the pet's skin and fur. Never use shampoo or conditioners that are not intended for pet use because the dog's skin and hair are sensitive. If the dog is prone to fleas and ticks, you may use a medicated shampoo that is recommended by vets.
The dog's ears and teeth must also be regularly given attention. Regular cleaning of the ears and teeth will prevent ear infections and dental problems. It is necessary to regularly check the dog's ears and have them cleaned with the use ear cleansers or drops and wipes. In cleaning the teeth, brush the dog's teeth with a toothbrush that has suitable bristles and toothpaste.
You can properly groom your dog without straining your budget. You can do it yourself in the comfort of your home with the use of some grooming tools and supplies. It can be tough at first, but by doing it on a regular basis will keep the dog used to it.
