There are a few options available for getting around the city of Barcelona, one of the main methods is to catch the tourist bus that travels in a circuitous route around the city passing all the best sights and giving you the chance to get on and off whenever you see something that strikes you as interesting.

Known as the Hop on, Hop off City Tour bus this double decker bus is a great way to travel, there's no waiting around as you'd have to if you joined a tour group. You can simply get off when something catches your attention, then once you've seen enough you just go back to the stop and wait for the next tour bus to come along and carry on along the route. You get to see all the main attractions the city centre has to offer, so even if you just see them from the open top at least you can take some photos and say you've been there! If you're looking for rental accommodation then there is plenty in the city centre that are convenient for the major city attractions and entertainment.

You can spend a few hours using the hop on, hop off bus services, or spend the whole day at each of the sights and really get the most for your money. The main sights along the route are Gaudi's Sagrada Familia, Gothic Quarter Olympic Village, Poble Espanyol. With commentary available in 10 different languages this is the ideal way to travel the sights of the city if you're on a budget.

This type of transport is perfect for those who have difficulty getting around such as older people or those with young families. It's also fun and cheap. The tour starts at Catalunya Square so is handy if you are booked into one of the city centre hotels or an apartment.

If you can ride a bike then this can also be a fun way to sightsee for couples, friends and by yourself, there are no parking problems, no traffic to sit in and no fare to pay! You can either just hire a bike and go off by yourself with a map in hand at a speed that suits, stopping where and when you like, or join a group that provides a tour guide and receive a running commentary as you cycle along.

A bike ride can be the best way to see the city at its best as it's leisurely and not as tiring as walking. Organised tours take in Cuitadella park, Barcelona Cathedral, Olympic port and Gaudi's Sagrada Familia, the Gothic Quarter and the Old Harbour.

Barcelona is a city that's warm enough and small enough to walk around if you are fit and healthy. Mostly the city centre is accessible by wide pavements and there are no steep hills to contend with, much of the city is pedestrianised so getting around by foot is an enjoyable way to see the sights.

An apartment in a central location makes it easy to join in a walking tour, spend the whole day discovering the Barri Gothic Quarter without venturing any further as there's so much to see and do there including discovering the narrow passageways and secret squares, cobbled streets, open-air cafés, and lively tapas bars in the area. Find out something about the city's history and its Roman roots, and visit the Santa Agata chapel right in the centre of this historic location. Or take the Picasso walking tour and learn about the artist's favourite places when he lived here for 10 years, with a visit to the well-known El Quatre Gats and Picasso Museum.

The Tapas walking tour combines tasty treats with famous landmarks with a visit to Granja Viader, a typical Barcelona Café that invented the thick chocolate drink Cacaolat and Plaza del Pi, a square in the Gothic Quarter and home to the Santa Maria del Pi Church.

A short break or longer holiday here has a lot to offer and can cater to all kinds of tastes. Book your trip now and don't miss out on this stunning and historical city.
