Improper shaving is the main cause of shaving bumps. Shaving follows after certain rules and if not properly adhered to ingrown hair and consequently bumps results. Prevention they say is better than cure. Therefore these rules if adequately followed will help prevent shaving bumps.
• Endeavor to get the hair of the area to be shaved wet before shaving. In point of fact, it is advisable to use warm water rather than cold water to scrub the area. This will soften the hair and relax the preparatory to shaving. Scrubbing also removes dead skin and helps point the hair out of the skin for cleaner shave.
• Apply a good shaving cream or gel on the area to be shaved to reduce friction or irritation. Endeavor to work the cream or gel into the shaving area for at least 2 or 3 minutes to soften the hair. Tend Skin Shaving Gel is very effective for this purpose.
• You should always do your shaving in the direction of the grain of the growth of your hair and not against it. This is in a bid to avoid irritation of the skin.
• Avoid going over the same area more than twice when shaving. Each stroke removes skin cells which causes unnecessary irritation.
• Avoid exerting excessive pressure on your skin when shaving. By doing so you tend to remove additional surface skin.
• Avoid using dull razor blades to shave. Rather endeavor to use new and sharp razor blades. A dull blade increases the chance of the hair tearing unevenly.
• Avoid picking or squeezing on razor bumps if it develops. Doing so might rather make it worse.
• Endeavor to use single blade razors to shave rather than double blade rather. It is advisable to avoid the "lift" and "cut" effect of multiple blade razors.
• Apply a good skin care lotion like Tend Skin Care Lotion on shaving bumps when they develop. It is very effective and acts fast.
