Breast reduction by liposuction is often considered by women who want to decrease the size of their breasts. While it is true that many women want to increase the size of their breasts, there is an almost equal market wanting to reduce their breasts, usually to a more manageable size.

Until recently, the way to achieve this was through complicated, invasive breast reduction surgery. Thankfully, newer techniques are allowing women to undergo a much less dramatic procedure-breast reduction by liposuction.

Before breast reduction by liposuction, a woman's only option would be literally to 'go under the knife' - a surgeon would excise an amount of breast tissue and attempt to achieve an even result. The problem with this technique was that in many cases, it actually didn't produce results that were very even. And the scarring - sometimes thick keloid scarring - was also a problem. Another common consequence was damage to the nipple area. And of course, as with any surgery requiring general anesthesia, the usual risks of general anesthesia were also present.

Nowadays however, tumescent liposuction techniques are allowing a completely different approach to the problem of larger, restrictive breasts. Tumescent technique is a very clever way of making it easier for the fat to be extracted. Through small incisions, the fat is first of all broken down, and then suctioned out via a small cannula.

What this means for women is a much easier, much better way of decreasing the size of their breasts. Instead of taking away glandular breast tissue, this form of breast reduction by liposuction utilizes small cannulas. These are inserted into the breast through incisions no more than a millimeter wide. The liquefied fat is aspirated from the breasts and the ensuing results are much more even than after an older breast reduction surgery. Naturally, the tiny incisions leave minute scars, but these usually fade over time.

Tumescent liposuction also has another advantage - no general anesthesia. Breasts can be reduced by as much as half while the patient remains fully conscious, but perfectly comfortable. Local anesthetic solution containing saline and lidocaine, are infused into the tissues through small incisions. This means that patients can often go home the day of the procedure.

A really advantageous thing about tumescent lipo as a means of breast reduction is that once the extra fat has been removed from the breast, the elastic tissues of the breast can retract, giving the breasts a lift as well. Breast reduction by liposuction, if you are a suitable candidate for this procedure, can certainly be a preferred option all around.
