Salcombe is a town located in the most southern part of Devon, South West England and is surrounded by magnificent coastal scenery, stunning beaches and gorgeous villages. Salcombe is close to the Kingsbridge Estuary and lies within the South Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and its extensive waterfront and harbour makes this town a well known sailing port. There are many popular sandy beaches in Salcombe – Sunny Cove, Mill Bay, Cable Cove, Small’s Cove and Fisherman’s Cove. The beaches of South Sands and North Sands are situated west of the Kingsbridge Estuary, and a ferry operates between Salcombe and South Sands. Salcombe has quite a few boatyards and marine stores. Given all the surrounding water, sailing in Salcombe is a common activity – sailors go out from the harbour or from up the river, and this provides many reasons for tourists to visit. There is a sailing school, a power boat school and even SCUBA diving is popular here. Regatta weeks are one of the main features of the summer season, with races for dingies and yachts as well.
Salcombe has many shops, bars and restaurants in the town, towards the waterfront with great views. There are plenty of clothes shops and art galleries to keep those who aren’t too fond of the water entertained.
