For this article I am using the term "website" very broadly. The internet marketing techniques discussed here can be used and should be used for any type of web presence you start including static websites, blogs, forums, social networks, social bookmarks, and any other type of presence. There are different ways to market these different types of websites, but the basic foundation is the same for any type of web presence. The first thing you should expect no matter how well you created your website is very little traffic for the first half year or so. This is the growing time and is when you are going to be building trust between your website and Google. Your first focus with your web presence should be getting indexed within Google, Yahoo, and Bing. The reason I only say get indexed with these three is they carry the majority of search traffic Google being the powerhouse with about 60% of the total worlds search volume. This means if you can rank well in Google for some major keyterms you will be receiving the majority of search traffic for the term.
There are a couple ways which you can get indexed in Google. The way the majority of webmasters online get their website indexed is by building a few high quality links. You can use this Free Web Directory to start then move onto directorycritic.com and submit to all the free general directories. With these resources you can truly build a solid permanent link foundation with your top keywords. It is important that rather than using your websites title over and over you use many keyword in the title box of these directories. Google will start ranking your website for these keywords that you are using. Usually it takes around a week to submit to all of these directories and the links will be built for the next year sporadically. This is great for Google because it makes your link building look very natural. Rather than having a bunch of links with the same anchor text show up all at once you will have a few built per day with different anchor text.
Submitting to directories is only the beginning of your internet marketing campaign of course. Very few people have made it big by submitting to a couple thousand directories. You next step should be article marketing and social marketing. The reason article marketing is so powerful is when you submit your article to one of the top directories publishers will come to the directory looking for content. If they read and like your article they will take it from the directory and publish it with the authors resource which should contain your name and a couple links to your blog or website. This will help not only build awareness of you and your presence, but the links in the resource box being published on these publishers websites and blogs will help you rise quickly within the search engines. Social marketing usually consists of submitting your article and the titles to the main social bookmarking websites. Some of the resources you should be using include ezinearticles.com, buzzle.com, goarticles.com, digg.com, stumbleupon.com, and delicious.com. If you would like more resources do a quick Google search for either "the top article directories" or "the top social bookmarking websites".
