There are many ways to give your bathroom a new look and feel. These range from simpler and less expensive changes, to complete and total structural makeovers.

If you are on a budget, but still wish to spruce up your bathroom, all is not lost. It is amazing what a difference it can make in the appearance of a bathroom to change the shower curtain and throw rugs. Add a few new towels in complimentary colors. Purchase a couple of inexpensive wall prints to hang if space permits, depicting a bath theme or perhaps colorful flowers. As you shop for accents remember that, while bright colors are eye catching, pastels will add the appearance of spaciousness in a small area.

As you really begin to feel creative, a new coat of paint will work wonders in freshening and brightening up your bathroom. Light colors on the walls, with a brightly colored wallpaper border around the top of the wall, can be just the right touch. Many people prefer bold colors, so it depends upon your decorating taste.

If the present arrangement or design of your bathroom just isn't working for you, it may be time to call in a professional. There are chain companies who specialize in bathroom remodeling. You are quite likely, however, to find an independent contractor who can do smaller jobs at a more economical cost. These small businesses will many times do a better job for you because their livelihood depends largely upon word of mouth. They need their customers to be satisfied with their finished product. Your local home improvement or building supply store may be able to give you the name of someone you can feel confident in hiring.

Before calling in professionals, you should have a strong idea of what you want the remodeled room to look like. Your contractor may be able to provide some good ideas, building on the plan you already have in mind. Remember that you are the one who will be living with the room, and you should feel comfortable with anything that is suggested, before changes are implemented. Beware of a builder who insists on doing things that are contrary to what you want.

In a major remodel, the layout of your fixtures will be of major importance. You will want to include plenty of space around your tub, toilet, and sink for any handicapped equipment that you or others in your family could need in the future. If you are adding a room, these things are included in the building code, and will be mandatory. For an existing room makeover, they are simply very good things to consider.

You will have many decisions to make during the remodeling process. Hopefully, however, the finished product will be well worth the cost and the work that it takes to achieve it.
