Online degrees have gotten increasingly popular nowadays. One of the main reasons is that the world has gotten more interconnected. With a computer and an internet connection, you will already be on your way to obtaining an online degree.

One of the main reasons that many people prefer the online degree is because of the flexibility that it gives them. You will get to set your own timetable and plan your own learning schedule. This is as opposed to a normal college setting where you have to follow the timetable and the dean’s instructions. However; this is not to say that an online degree can be achieved without any effort on your part. On the contrary, many colleges demand that you get a set GPA in order to for you to graduate. There are referrals just as would happen in a normal college setting.

The other reason that many people prefer online degrees is that it allows them to study as they work. You will therefore still earn your income as you study. One of the reasons why many people do not enhance their credentials is that they are frightened by the prospect of having to live without an income for a set duration. Unless one obtains a full scholarship, many people put off the acquisition of further qualifications.

The other reason why online degrees are preferred by international students is that it enables them to obtain degrees from international universities without having to travel and adapt to foreign cultures and places. In addition, an online degree is always cheaper than an offline degree.

There are very many engineering professions that one can pursue.

When choosing an engineering major to pursue, it is important that you align the program with your interests and hobbies. Although the requirements of the professions vary from program to program, there are some common denominators. For instance, all the engineering programs require a high aptitude for math. Math aptitude is required as almost all engineering problems have a quantitative dimension. Calculation of parameters such as distance, current, power, voltage, speed, etc all have a math dimension. Another requirement that is needed is the ability to be creative and very innovative. The best engineers are usually the ones who are very creative and innovative. The profession also demands a very high level of accuracy as a mistake by an engineer can lead to the loss of very many lives. There are many fields that one can pursue. They include:

Architecture and landscape design

This involves coming up with designs for buildings and other infrastructure. An architect needs to have a high math aptitude, have a creative ability and be able to put in very long hours. In many cases, an architect needs to work with a structural/civil engineer.

Civil engineering

This involves the design of buildings and other infrastructure. You will also test to see whether the building is structurally strong. A civil engineer in many cases works with an architect.

Mechanical engineering

This is the largest engineering field and spans across all the engineering fields. As a mechanical engineer, you will design machines and components and see that they function properly. You can also specialize in the energy sector which is a very rich research field right now. For instance, as the calls for the world to control global warming get louder, research into renewable energy sources is bound to be a lucrative field. One may also choose to specialize in the space sciences and aeronautical or aviation engineering.

Software engineering

This involves the preparation of computer programs so as to solve complex tasks.

Electrical/computer engineering

This involves the design and manufacture of electronic components and hardware devices.

Systems engineering

This is especially useful for

project managers as it teaches them to manage complex projects.

Other fields include:

-Construction engineering

-Engineering management

-Environmental engineering

-Industrial engineering

-Material engineering

-material engineering

-Safety engineering
