The purpose of a floor burnisher is to shine a floor to its original condition. A common misconception with burnishers is that it will polish every floor and give it a wet look gloss shine. A burnisher can only shine a floor that has been properly prepped and finished with quality floor finishes. The most common type of flooring a burnisher is used on is VCT tile. This type of tile is mostly found in schools and retail stores. The solid content of a floor finish determines our shiny a floor will be. The higher solid content in a finish will reflect more light than a lower solid content in a finish, making the floor seen brighter. A burnisher is used to heat up the floor finish which in turn fills in microscopic scratches making the floor reflect more light. One of the best and most reasonable burnishers sold in the United States is the NSS charger 1500. This unit has a speed rating of 1500 RPMs which is ample speed to burnish any VCT tile floor.
The three main components of the NSS charger 1500 are the handle, brush drive system, and main base assembly. NSS seems to have taken their time and thought out the design of the handle. It's ergonomic design allows the user to perform larger jobs with less fatigue. At the top of the handle are lever control switches which are used to turn the motor system on and off. If these handles are released the machine automatically shuts off by itself as an added safety feature. The machine handle can be easily adjusted to match the user's height, making the machine more controllable. The brush drive system utilizes a 1.5 hp internal motor which is designed for even the toughest jobs. The average lifespan of one of these motors is approximately 5 to 10 years depending on usage. The motor system is protected by a circuit breaker that will shut down the machine in the event of overheating or excessive drag on the motor. The base assembly is not plastic unlike other comparable machines. It is made from quality steel and is coated with chrome making it resistant to rust and pitting. The lower base assembly houses a 20 inch pad driver which is shrouded with a rubber barrier. The shroud's main purpose is to eliminate floor finish particles from being dispersed into the air while using the machine. A wheel carriage is optional for easy transport from jobsite to jobsite. This machine like most pieces of NSS floor equipment is made to be rebuilt and can last up to 15 years. NSS parts are made from durable materials and last longer than the comparable competitors parts. NSS parts can be commonly found at any cleaning products dealer or online floor equipment store.
NSS believes so much in the floor equipment it produces that it features an unheard off seven year warranty. The warranty covers parts and labor for a limited time and is unmatched by any other floor equipment competitor. An added feature of the NSS charger 1500 is that it operates at just under 65 decibels which make the machine LEED green building compliant. Overall this burnisher is best in its class for looks, performance, and durability. With a price tag of under $2000 per unit is not just another purchase but a smart investment for commercial cleaners.
