How to Cope With Acne and its Effects; Parents Guide

Needless to say, there are personal emotional effects caused by acne. This goes beyond those apparent red bumps on one’s face, there are effects of acne that could not be healed by just any cream or acne solution, I am talking about the emotional scars that are induced and left by acne. Well, don’t expect any expert dermatologist you see could provide you with the best answers to this predicament on acne.

Studies on skin health indicate that acne is very common when one is on his teenage years, but again, you don’t need any book or research paper to know that! For most teenagers experiencing the pains of acne is less disturbing than facing the social impacts of acne. It’s a triangle of shame, depression and even self-pity. As a parent of a teenager who confronts this problem, you could be one of the utmost help. What could you do? You could do a lot.

Tell your child that acne is temporary.

As a protector, you must to be there to encourage your child. You would probably witness your son or daughter being low in mood, so down due to the way people and criticisms pinch him or her, to the point that they actually get depressed. Remind them the whole depression thing and acne will not last for long and that it would be successfully surpassed. Never stop to explain the importance of moving on despite the negative reactions from others for their words are not that important at all.

Accompany your teen to a good dermatologist

Do not wait for your teen’s acne problem to get worse before you go and see a dermatologist. The earlier the better, this may be cliché but very true for this matter and you could realize the truth behind this. You should look for a dermatologist who has your total trust. Accompany your teen as you have visits to the dermatologist. And, help your teen follow the reminders and instructions of the dermatologist.

Help your child to do the right things

Certain things or acts could aggravate acne. Make sure that you are by your teen’s side to remind that those are not the right thing to do and it would just cause bad effects. Explain the cause and effect of acne problems and be sure to answer questions that your kid has.

Boost your children self-confidence

Your teen’s self-confidence dives downward when all those mocks and teases arise. The effect to your teen would be bitter. Make it your job to boost the esteem of your child. Be generous with praises but do not use them just to flatter. Tell your teen about how wonderful his or her talent is. This would be a lift to their morale.

Being a parent or guardian, you could help out your kid to feel much better through the misjudgments and ignorance of the society towards people with acne. Make sure your child understand that they are just going through a transient period which will soon be a thing of past. Be their rock and support them with your all.
