Your guests first impression of the party will be the 1st birthday invitations you send out!!!!! need to change from here

As the 1st birthday invitations will be the first impression your guests have of your party, make it a really good impression.

There's few things more satisfying than a pile of crisp white envelopes all neatly addressed and stamped and ready to post. And nothing more exiting than a delightful invitation landing on the doormat!

Before you make a start on your 1st birthday invitations you need to decided an a few things.

The theme of the party, which could simply be '1st birthday', but you may wish to use a theme also such as spring/summer/winter, a colour theme such as pink, blue or silver, or a character theme such as Scooby Doo or Dora.

The style of invitation. The most traditional is a postcard or folded card style, or a folded A5 sheet. But you could use a chocolate bar, message in a bottle. Or you could use a wax seal to seal the invitation. Or print the invitation in a certificate style and roll it up secured with a ribbon. You can buy cardboard tubes to send such invites in.

It's fun to customise your first birthday invitations with glitter confetti or small trinket charms. Place this into the envelope at the last minute as a surprise when the guest opens your invitation.

Obviously your little one it too young to yet help with the first birthday invitation ideas, but you may have older children who would love to get involved. Or if like me you just love all this crafty stuff, get stuck in!

You can also get custom invitations made with your own wording and even an uploaded photograph.

Internet invitations are free, or you could create a Facebook event for your babies first birthday and invite guests through facebook

Of course once you've decided on the theme and type of invitation you need to remember to include all the correct information, not necessarily in this order.

Who – who is the party for

When – on what date and what time, pm or am

Why - 1st birthday obviously

Where – where is the party being held

What – anything else such as fancy dress or bring a bottle

How – to reply, remember to include your photo number, email address or the address you want them to reply by and before which date.
