The best form of transport for babies and toddlers are of course baby strollers. They don't just carry your little one but all your belongings as well. There are plenty of types of strollers available it's difficult to know where to begin.
Before you decide which stroller fits your needs there's a wide variety of things you need to consider. Think about what features you need and why.
Wheels
Handles
Amount of Seats
Carseat adapter
Light-weight
Sturdy frame
Umbrella style
Carriage style
Travel system
fitness
Large
Small
Cost
Extra's
Not all strollers have all of these features so what may appear like simple decisions to make to begin with can actually be a tricky compromise. Do you need to take the stroller jogging? Does the strollers need to fit through narrow doors? Will it fit into the trunk of the car? Does it come with rain hoods and foot muffs, or is that an extra cost?
Adjustable handles help it become easier for taller parents, otherwise it could be a very painful experience pushing a stroller around that isn't at the correct height for you. If the handles aren't comfortable it can cause pain in your hands after a long day's pushing.
Always ensure that your wheels are able to swivel at the least 180 degrees if maneuverability in tight spaces is important for you. Also if you wish to take the stroller jogging it is best to take into consideration getting a model that has pneumatic tires to get a smoother ride. Some of the higher priced strollers have ball bearing wheels which provides you the smoothest ride of all.
What number of seats do you require? If you're expecting twins then the double stroller is made for you. (the double jogging stroller could be more suitable see below) Determine if you need your babies side by side or one in front of the other. In case you have a toddler and are expecting another baby then a double stroller is perfect, since you can put both in a double stroller. One seat may be laid flat for the baby while the other could be a seat for your toddler.
What additional features do you need included with your stroller? Some come with rain hoods and cover, drinks holders and organizing sections to store all your babies diapers, wipes and cream etc you will need when you are outdoors. These features can be a bit more expensive but might mean you don't need to bring out a baby change bag along with you everyday. The drinks and snack holders are generally removable.
There are a lot of light weight strollers available on the market. They are particularly helpful to change to from the large travel system you could have been using for your baby from birth. They aren't suited to infants though because they don't provide any support for his or her back and also have nothing to keep them from falling forward. They fold conveniently and may be carried under one arm.
You ought to have a look at jogging strollers if you plan to take your new child jogging together with you when you do a little bit of exercise. It may be smart to purchase a double jogging stroller though because it will allow you room to expand when you have the next child instead of needing to purchase a new stroller. A double jogging stroller will allow you to take away the extra seat so it looks like a single stroller, if it's designed to have one in front of the other.
If Fitness is essential for your requirements after your second child you might like to think about the double jogging stroller. It's just like a double stroller but able to be taken jogging. So that you can take your twins, or your baby and toddler for a run inside your double jogging stroller. In most cases more rugged than a standard stroller so it will be fine to use it off road!
