Baby Room Wall Art

Sometimes finding art for a nursery can be challenging. Using the ABC Baby Block Wall Stickers, you can create beautiful personalized baby wall art that gives a hand painted look. There are no special painting talents needed to create this bordered picture. If you can use scissors and draw a straight line, this project is for you.

Approximate time: 1 ½ hours

Supply List:

ABC Block Wall Stickers from Create-A-Mural

Pre-primed Canvas 16 x 20 or larger (purchased at a local craft store in various sizes) (Depending on your child’s name, you may want to get a larger canvas.)

Acrylic Paints two complimentary colors (purchase at a local craft store)

Mod Podge or Decoupage Glue/Sealer

Paint brushes or a paint sponge to prime piece and apply glue

Chalk Pencil or piece of chalk

Ruler

Blue Painters Tape (Purchase in any craft store or hardware store)

Step 1 –

  • Using a ruler, measure 1" around the canvas. (You will only need to mark every few inches just so you have a gauge to make a straight line.)

  • To paint border first, take painters tape and tape off center of canvas leaving the outside to paint. You will have to make sure the ends of your tape are straight so you will have a crisp line. Make sure you press down tightly, but be careful not to press to hard, because you will damage your canvas. This will prevent any paint from seeping under the tape.

  • Apply your first acrylic paint color (I used a light green color). (If the paint is too thick and goes on clumpy, add a couple of drops of water to it and stir well)

  • Once paint is evenly applied, remove painters tape by pulling up on angle. If you need to make any repairs to the paint, do so now. (You can use q-tips to remove any access paint by dampening and lightly wiping. Make sure you use a new q-tip for every area you wipe.)

Step 2 –

  • Once the paint is dry, you can now tape over the painted border to apply the second color to the inside of your canvas. (I used a teal color.)

  • Once paint is evenly applied, remove painters tape by pulling up on an angle. Make any necessary repairs. Allow paint to dry.

Step 3 –

  • Carefully cut-out designs and arrange on your piece. Once you know how you want to place your design, Find the center of the canvas by measuring from the top to the bottom, divided by two mark with chalk, then measure from side to side divide by two mark the center. Do this at the top of the canvas under the border, and at the bottom of the canvas above the border to center your letters and in the middle of the canvas to center the duck design.

Step 4 –

  • Using the ABC Baby Block Wall Stickers place your name and the word" ROOM" on the canvas using the lines drawn when we found the center of the canvas. Center the name by taking the center letters and lining them up with your center mark. (Using the name JACK’S as an example, I took the "C" and placed the center of the letter on the center of the line. I also took to word ROOM and placed my mark between the two "O" ’s.

  • Place the duck’s back over your center line (Centering your line in the middle of his body).

  • Instead of using an apostrophe, I used the ABC Block Wall Stickers stars. Place your rattles and baby bottle in the spaces that are open.

  • Once everything is in place, now you can glue it.

Step 5–

  • Take ABC Baby Block Wall Stickers design and place a liberal amount of glue (Mod Podge) and apply to back of sheet. Carefully place design in place and press. Carefully wipe away any extra glue. Continue until all decals are glued into place. Let dry.

Step 6 –

  • Once your letters are dry, erase any chalk lines that appear using a damp cloth or lightly erasing.

  • If decals are not glued in places, just reapply glue. (You can use a q-tip to apply glue to smaller edges).

  • Then Use your Mod Podge and seal your entire project.
