If you are considering purchasing a hammock to unwind and relax, it can be hard to choose the one that you want because there are so many types available. There are advantages and disadvantages to each type and only you can decide which type of hammock will suit you the best.
There are numerous types of hammocks available. However, they can all basically be divided into 3 groups depending on what they are made from. These include string, rope, and fabric hammocks. Each of these materials has their own advantages and disadvantages.
The string type is also known as the Mayan hammock. This type is hand woven, and many of them come from El Salvador, Nicaragua, Guatemala, or Mexico. They are mad of tightly woven webs that are made from fine cotton that are weaved such that they may take as much as a mile of string. This type is the most decorative because they are available in tropical, exotic colors which help to create a holiday atmosphere that is very relaxing. This type provides good ventilation and is very comfortable. Also they won’t leave you with skin impressions. This type is great for the beach or to take camping because they are so light weight. The disadvantage of this type is that it is relatively easy to damage. The string can be easily cut by any sharp object, therefore, they aren’t very durable.
The most popular and traditional type is the rope hammock. This type is usually made of polyester or cotton rope. They are less expensive than other types, don’t need much maintenance, and are very durable. One advantage of this type is that it allows air to circulate around you which is a real benefit on a hot day. Although they are somewhat comfortable, the rope may leave you with skin impressions. The types that have smaller spaces in between the ropes are more comfortable.
Fabric hammocks can be made of mesh or cotton or quilted. If this type is of good quality, it won’t need much maintenance and will be very durable. This type is very comfortable because the cotton fabric is the most comfortable. Also, they will not leave a skin impression on your body. This type is also very safe for small children because their little toes and fingers can’t get caught in the spaces. The disadvantage of this type is that it won’t provide you with much ventilation. Therefore, if you are lying in this type a hot day, you may perspire quite a bit. Conversely, this type is perfect for climates where it is cooler.
The traditional types of hammocks that are made from fabric and rope are stave less or have spreader bars at each end. Many people mistakenly believe that the types that have spreader are more comfortable, but the fact is that the opposite is true. The types without the spreader are the most comfortable since they wrap around your body better. If you prefer the look of the type with spreader bars, you should get the type that have three hanging points rather than the type that have only two because there is less of a chance that this type will tip over.
The Internet has least expensive and most variety of hammocks and is the best place to shop for one.
