After the success of Apple’s iPad launch in April 2010 many companies are venturing into this domain. RIM is joining the fray with its BlackBerry PlayBook tablet which is expected to hit the markets in February. Cisco and HP are in the pipeline with the Cisco's Cius tablet that might hit the markets in March, and HP’s updated iPad with front facing camera and a Palm WebOS. According to a research conducted by eMarketers in the US, the number of smartphone users will also rise from 60.2 million to 73.3 million by the year end. There will also be a rise in the number of smart phone users with more and more companies making a debut in this domain.
More location based services
Just as social media became a rage in the year 2010, location based marketing will be a popular mobile trend for the year 2011. According to a research conducted by the research firm Gartner, more than 75 percent of devices that are shipped to developed countries will include a GPS or Global Positioning System. Location based social networking sites like Loopt, Gowalla, and Foursquare has already grabbed the attention of majority GPS equipped smart phone users. Thus, from the business point of view location-based marketing will be the next best thing to opt for in the year 2011
